Commander Walters is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film. He is a commander of the United States Armed Forces, serving as the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, headquarters for the United States Department of Defense (DOD).

Commander Walters is an older gentleman with clean-cut white hair. He is normally seen wearing his military commander uniform, which has many medals and awards on it.

After Sonic causes a huge power blackout across the Pacific Northwest with an electromagnetic pulse, word of the incident soon reaches the Pentagon. During a joint meeting of the top brass of the U.S. military, including the Secretary of Homeland Security, and possibly the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF), Walters realizes they need additional help to investigate the incident. He suggests calling on Doctor Robotnik, despite concerns from the Joint Chiefs, especially the United States Navy Chief of Staff, due to past encounters with the scientist. Despite their concerns, Walters realizes they have no other options to consider on the matter.

After Robotnik is defeated by Sonic and sent to the mushroom planet, Walters comes by the Wachoskis' house in Green Hills. He reveals that the Pentagon has erased all information pertaining to what happened with Robotnik and Sonic, and that they are not responsible. He then rewards Tom and Maddie for their part in keeping things under wraps by giving them a gift card to Olive Garden as thanks from the U.S. government. He tries to get a peek at Sonic, even offering Sonic a chance to meet the President, before Tom and Maddie politely close the door and send him on his way.

Commander Walters is a serious man who holds a position of great trust in the US Armed Forces. He is willing to take risks, calling in Robotnik to help investigate Sonic's EMP despite the concerns of his comrades. However, he is not a stern individual, and was very warm with Tom and Maddie. He can be a bit awkward though, as he tried a little too hard to keep them from closing their front door.
