— Description, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

The Cliff Hanger is an enemy that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a mass-produced model of Destruction Troops created by Lyric the Last Ancient.

Appearance[]

The Cliff Hangers are spider-like robots with yellow armor and grey joints. Their main bodies consist of a sphere holding a red eye with green sclera on top of them. Surrounding their eye are triangular flaps for covering it. Their bodies also has six legs each with thick joints and lower limbs, green lights and four-clawed feet.

Overview[]

Five millennia ago, the Cliff Hangers were created in the Robot Facility by Lyric the Last Ancient to help him destroy the earth's lifeforms and conquer it.[1] During an attack on the remaining Ancients however, the Cliff Hangers were shut down when Lyric ended up imprisoned.[1][2] They were later recovered by Lyric after he escaped in the present to search for the Crystal Shards and battle Team Sonic too.

The Cliff Hangers are only found in Robot Facility. In gameplay, they normally walk around on the ceilings, but they can also be found walking on the floors in rare cases. Notably, they constantly emit an orange targeting laser. Shortly after noticing the playable characters pass them, the Cliff Hangers will constantly shoot a laser perpendicular from the surface they are on while pursuing the player along the surface they hang onto until they hit them. However, they cannot cross corners or walls and their laser cannot reach into corners. Also, if the player gets far enough away, they will cease their attack. Shortly after ceasing with their beam emission though, the Cliff Hangers will look around, trying to track the playable character down again. Also, even if the player destroys a Cliff Hanger, a new one will later respawn to take its place. Additionally, the fourteenth Toy the player purchases from Q-N-C's Toy Shop will be a Cliff Hanger figurine.

After Team Sonic and Shadow defeated Lyric, the Cliff Hangers were stopped once more.

Personality[]

Basically, the Cliff Hangers are mindless and silent drones unwaveringly loyal to Lyric the Last Ancient, having been programmed to obey his every command.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

The Cliff Hangers can climb on any surface and can fire a powerful death ray from their eye.

Trivia[]

  • The Cliff Hangers share the same name as the plot device in fiction.
  • The Cliff Hangers' abilities and attack patterns are virtually identical to the Scrawls'.

Building an army of robots programmed to obey his every command, the deadly snake-like villain set out to destroy everything organic and create a world of twisted metal and robots. However, just before he could successfully take over, he was attacked by the last surviving Ancients and imprisoned forever. With his army shut down and his plans ruined, he waited in prison plotting his revenge. Years passed and Lyric began to give up hope. That is, until Sonic comes across him.
