The Clean Sweepstakes, also referred to as the Clean Sweepstakes Race, is an event that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is an Extreme Gear race that is hosted by the Restoration and its owner; Jewel the Beetle with its current business partner Clean Sweep Inc. corporation and its owner, Clutch the Opossum.
History[]
Past[]
Before the event, Clutch the Opossum would hire the Babylon Rogues to steal a relic from Knuckles on Angel Island, the Rouges would fail, and Clutch wanted to prepare them for this event.[1] Sometime later Sonic and Tails would test out Tails' new Extreme Gear model to which he they would end up on an adventure but still manage to find out the Extreme Gear works.[2]
The evening prior to the race, Mimic would show Clutch the racers such as the Babylon Rogues (with him saying how they are no threat), but when shown that Team Sonic was in the race, he feared that Amy would run into him, which would ruin the plan. He asks Mimic to help him create a device for their Extreme Gear the next morning. Mimic, disguised as Duo, wakes up Surge and Kit and informs them to click the button to stop Sonic and his team, but Surge denies saying how she wants to do things her way. Clutch walks in the room and mentions how they were nothing without him, so she ultimately agrees.
Belle the Tinkerer would be tinkering with the Extreme Gears in the Battleship machine shop when Clutch and the Clean Sweepstakes Security take the boards and tie Belle up in a locker.[3]
Present[]
Event 1[]
Soon after Omochao would start thefirst event by waving the flag and the racers take off on their Extreme Gear, Nite would remind the racers that to qualify they must fully finish the race before a certain number of people cross the finish line. Sonic encourages Tails and Amy to show them what they can do but while doing so, Tails is too busy geeking over people's extreme gear to which sonic replies with asking him if he wants to test his new prototypes or watch to Tails regains his focus. Later on, in the race Nite announces how the racers are heading into the town which the Babylon Rogues catch up to Sonic's team and Jet would start mocking the hedgehog saying how they have been at work, and he will lose, Wave then trash talks Tails extreme gear, but Amy defends him saying how she will take tails board over her's any day. This causes Storm to say something until backing out of his trash talk Team Sonic would then get past the Rouges but jet hits sonic and Whisper fires her variable wispon with lanolin calling that a violation to the rules, meanwhile Tangle says hi to her friends while Surge clicks a controller causing team Sonic's boards to go out of control. Back during the race Tails is flying sonic to catch Amy and save her which lead them trio hanging on to the pink rose which whisper blast the two boards to help them to Tangle asking if they are alright. Lanolin calls them a hazard to the race and telling them to get off the track which leads to Tangle yelling at her saying there our friends, but Duo agrees saying how at the time is too harsh Lanolin saying how they were saved by Whisper's aim and the team gets disqualified from the race.[4]
Event 2[]
Nite starts by announcing the second event in Central City, Nite continues saying how the objective of the race is to survive, he then counts down while Sonic transforms into the Phantom Rider, once the race began Nite calls out Jet and the Babylon Rogues already have a lead but then phantom Rider comes in and mocks them. The Phantom Rider grabs Omochao and talks to the audience saying how he is the fastest and no one can beat him then he catches up to Jet which he claims he has never met him before but Storm tells Jet to wait for him and Wave. Soon the Phantom Rider blast through other racers causing them to fall off until Tangle manages to catch them underneath the track beside her is Lanolin, Duo and Whisper who hear Nite telling the audience how much of a powerhouse Phantom Rider is. Lanolin then ask Duo to call for back up saying how the Phantom Rider is going down, back at the race Jet is neck and neck with Phantom Rider this shocks Nite to his surprise saying how this is unbelievable then once Jet catch up to him he smokes him causing Jet to go blind for a while. the Clean Sweepstakes Security catch's up to him and Lanolin tells him to land with Nite commentating on his reign of terror being order. Lanolin uses her Golden Bell to stop him but that caused the glass to break making riders fall off the track, The Phantom rider along with two of the security guards fall while Tangle uses her tail to save the riders with the Phantom Rider also helping rescue the people soon after he would leave until Surge hits him with her Extreme Gear. Kit tries to tell Surge to stand down, but she continues by first introducing herself to hi and complimenting his moves during the race saying how he looks a guy who can appreciate a good thrashing. Surge punches him in the face causing a portion of Sonic's face to be revealed then the Phantom Rider kicks her away and escape At the Babylon rouges managed to get the top 3 Jet looking frustrated Wave reminds him that he finished first, Jet the points out how it is not so bad then Wave realizes that they aren't cheering for them but instead cheering for Surge and Kit stopping the Phantom Rider this infuriates Jet as he sees her as new competition.[5]
Event 3[]
The third event in Clean Sweepstakes is a dodgeball game in Misty Spire which Nite announces how Surge is on a role while Jet gets frustrated by Surge beginning to taunt but Wave tells him to focus on the bigger picture and worry about her later.
Meanwhile Sonic transformed as the Phantom Rider hopes that Eggman's hard light camouflage will work as it could be used as a bit of armor. Suddenly a second phantom rider appears with Duo's scarf in hand saying how the Diamond Cutters are a joke and can't stop him causing the competitors to be in shock including Sonic. The second phantom rider begins to cause chaos by eliminating other players which causes him to be surrounded by Tangle, Whisper and Lanolin who says there's nowhere to run, which he surrenders until he throws a dodgeball at Lanolin. Nite announces to stop the Phantom Rider which the Babylon Rogues and Sonic chase after them until they are cut off by Surge and Kit who Surge tells them to move which she further goes on to tell the Phantom Rider to come out and give her a real challenge. Jet then tells Surge to shut up, but Wave reminds jet to think happy thoughts to then Tangle talks to Whisper about Lanolin's state but before she could finish, she is interrupted by Surge who reminds whisper of their fight and how she defeated her back in Central City.
She further goes on to say about what they would say when she smears Tangle across one of the rocks which angers Whisper causing her to chase her down, but Tangle tries to stop her, but it is too late. Surge then comes over saying how she is going to pound whoever is laughing until Whisper hits Surge with the Variable Wispon which Kit prepares to strike back with Surge saying how they were playing nice but if that's how she wants to do it then so be it. Tangle tries to stop them until Kit holds her back saying how she will interrupt them which then the Babylon Rouges come in and join the fight, Sonic hiding around a corner is surprised by Mimic who takes off his helmet, but Sonic was too late to see who pull it until revealing to the others that the Phantom Rider Is Sonic. The canyon soon starts to collapse which Tangle in shock ask Sonic why but then the hedgehog is left behind looking disappointed in himself.[3]
Final Event[]
Soon Nite starts by announcing the final event and they save the best for last until Nite says that they have an announcement from Clean Sweep Inc. reading that they are handling the situation and tells the audience not to worry or panic but meanwhile before the Tangle and Whisper quietly discuses about telling Lanolin and Duo but Whisper reassures her that she will handle that, meanwhile the Babylon Rouges talk about how to approach the Phantom Rider and Wave reminds him to not be aggressive and Jet annoyingly agrees with Storm saying they brought no tracks. Meanwhile Sonic is waiting for the race to start and says that this is his last chance and that whatever Tails and Amy are up to it better be wrapped up and soon after the race begins with Nite announcing it is set right in the streets of Central City.
Suddenly the Phantom Rider appears, and Jet immediately goes after him while Wave crashes trying to remind him to be gentle when Surge and Kit blast through the crowed when Surge tries to run into him, but he does it when suddenly Surge jumps from her Hang-On and knocks him off the Eggstreme Gear after trying to taunt her while Kit grapes her using his Hydro Pack tails. Soon the Diamond Cutters surround him with lanolin telling him that he is done and it's enough and Lanolin counties saying that he would not like her kick on her wispon. Sonic disagrees when suddenly the Babylon Rogues surround him when Nite announces a halt in the race, saying that everyone is going after the Phantom Rider with him dogging attacks from Lanolin, Surge and Kit who Surge manages to grab on to his Eggstreme Gear while Whisper uses her Variable Wispon to fire. Jet than orders the rouges to attack but are stopped by Kit's tails when Tangle uses her to grab Surge until she zaps her and tells her to not get in her way while the Phantom Rider continues to taunt her saying their fights aren't it. The Phantom Rider launches at her while Surges also blast towards him and Surges gets knocked by the collision when after she laughs at him saying she got the device turning the Phantom Rider back to Sonic while Kit ask Surge is she's okay and she replies saying she's fine and did not ask any stupid questions. Sonic then ask her what the game and Surge replies is saying that she is following order and ask her boss if he is happy.[6]
