Clean Sweep Inc.[1] is an organization that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. They are an organization that publically offers clean-up support services in the wake of conquests led by Dr. Eggman, but also secretly stockpiles the resources and arsenal left behind for Clutch's arms trade. Their true plans are to take over the Restoration by force to eliminate their competition.
The organization has two mascots called Dr. Yolk, who is a pastiche of Dr. Eggman, and his sidekick a Crabmeat, named Nick, though this is actually Rough and Tumble in costume. Later, Eggman would choose to keep Clutch alive and enlist the opossum, turning Clean Sweep Inc. into a front of the Eggman Empire and thereby profiting off his own waste.
History[]
Misadventures[]
Clutch founded Clean Sweep Inc. some time after escaping from the Chaotix Detective Agency. Having established a new base of operations for himself, Clutch contacted Mimic. Wary of being contacted despite laying low, wanting to remain off-radar following his escape from jail[2], Mimic disguised himself and headed directly to Clutch's personal quarters, where the opossum remained unfooled, but impressed, by the disguise, having paid attention to his security surveillance.
Clutch explained his "aggressive" business venture over a drink, revealing the nature of his current operation, and discussing his plans on how to deal with the Restoration, who virtually operate the same way as Clean Sweep Inc., albeit for free, and dispose of the materials they clean up, effectively making them a direct rival to his business, and a threat to his trade.
Clutch informed Mimic that his enemies, Whisper and Tangle, were part of the Restoration's new vanguard, and had been calling themselves the Diamond Cutters, which caught Mimic's attention, accepting his new mission. Sharing a toast, Clutch welcomed Mimic into Clean Sweep Inc.[1]
Later, Clutch hired the Babylon Rogues to steal a pair of Gold Statues from Angel Island. After being caught by Knuckles and the Chaotix, Jet called Clutch to tell him that they had failed to secure the statues for the drop off, and that the Rogues would recover them as soon as possible, but Clutch informed him that he needn't bother, as the whole incident was intended to preoccupy the Chaotix while he makes a certain business arrangement.
Clutch hang up the phone, where he then resumed business with Jewel the Beetle, revealing that Clean Sweep Inc. would be entering partnership with the Restoration.[3]
Second Chances[]
Clutch later met Surge and Kit in their hideout after his own henchmen, Rough and Tumble, caused a disturbance. Clutch revealed to them his knowledge about them and how he used to conduct business with Dr. Starline. To cool the hostility between them, Clutch decided to invite them into his business, informing them of his plans with Clean Sweep Inc., revealing his plans of a hostile takeover of the Restoration. Impressed, Surge accepted his offer.
Surge and Kit later met with Mimic after enlisting in the Diamond Cutters, discussing the latter's existing role within the team, planning to have Surge and Kit's existing reputation distract others from Mimic's own goal.[4]
Phantom Riders[]
On the evening before the race, Mimic, under the guise of one of the Restoration workers, talks about the upcoming races with Clutch, calling the Rouges "Airborne Maroons" always scrambling for treasure. For Team Sonic, Mimic tells Clutch he needs to stay off the radar, noting Amy to be the core behind their success and her finding out about Clutch's presence would cause their plan to become messy and fail. Mimic proposes to arrange something to better their chances. Clutch tell him to head over to Pre-race inspections and meet up with his "boys" who know of what Clutch desires. On the morning of the race, Mimic, now disguised as Duo, wakes up Surge and Kit. After dealing with the fallout of waking the duo up, Mimic tells the pair that Clutch has assigned them a mission; to click the button on the remote and mess up the hero's gear. Surge is unamused by the sneaky nature of the plan and would rather do something more bold. Clutch then walks in and reminds her how they were nothing until he found them, leaving Surge with no choice but to follow through with the assignment.
Clutch is sat with Jewel having some Chaos Cola, to which Jewel is repulsed by its sweetness and kindly declines the beverage. Clutch is amused by her reaction and tells her there are more than just one flavor of the drink. Jewel ponders if she should be down at ground level representing the Restoration, to which Clutch responds with a warning that being in the public eye is a recipe for trouble. He then tells of how an individual by themselves is approachable, fallible, and weak and Restoration should be seen as nothing more than an institution. Jewel counters this ideology, telling Clutch of how the Restoration has always tried to connect with the people it tries to help. Clutch assures her that they will help, but that changes are necessary. Jewel musses, to Clean Sweep Inc.'s credit, they have been impressive on the paperwork side. Clutch assures her that she hasn't seen the best of what his company has to offer, with plans to make their plans global scale. Jewel's alarm goes off as she realizes she has paperwork to do. Clutch stops her, noting how she'll miss the race. Jewel tells of how there is always paperwork to do and recalls how Clutch himself noted it was where she "shines".
Scattered Pieces[]
Doctor Eggman would chose to keep Clutch alive and enlist him into the Eggman Empire, having Clutch wear a small device over his head under his hat. As Eggman's ally, Clean Sweep Inc. became a front of the Eggman Empire. In doing so, the empire began to profit off its own waste.[5]
