Chun-Nan is the first Zone in Sonic Unleashed (mobile). It is set in an East Asian area with a small town. Chun-Nan has three Levels, the second of which features a boss fight.
Description[]
Chun-Nan is a mountainous area set in an East Asian setting. The background features several, short mountains separated by clean rivers. The mountains have a few buildings, some vegetation, and small waterfalls that lead to the aforementioned rivers. The area the player traverses through is a set of tall towers made of light brown bricks that are connected by bridges made of the same materials. These buildings also have some moss on them, and are decorated with some plants and signs with Sino-Tibetan-like characters.
Story[]
Chun-Nan was where Sonic, in his Werehog form, ended up following a battle against Dr. Eggman in the doctor's spaceship. After meeting a mysterious creature he names "Chip", the hedgehog made his way through Chun-Nan's region to find someone who may know about Chip, but to no avail. Eventually, Sonic encounters Eggman in the area, and pursues him to Apotos after defeating him.
Gameplay[]
As Sonic, Chun-Nan is a very fast-paced Zone with lots of branching pathways and secrets. Aside from the normal Springs, the Zone also features wide, bouncing platforms that are often found in groups. Also common are the Grind Rails, sometimes combined with Dash Panels, which the player can use to clear large gaps and reach higher areas; as well as rows of Rainbow Rings. A less common gimmick is the water, which does not pose much of a threat as it is briefly found in rare, shallow areas.
As the Werehog, Chun-Nan becomes a more linear and slow-paced Zone, though it still offers a few secrets. In several sections, the player must defeat a horde of Egg Fighters to progress. Aside from that though, Chun-Nan is pretty straight-forward and can be beaten without any issue.
Overview[]
Level 1[]
Chun-Nan Level 1 is played as Sonic.
Level 2[]
Chun-Nan Level 2 is played as the Werehog.
Level 3[]
Chun-Nan Level 3 is played as Sonic.
Boss[]
In Level 2, the boss is a modified Egg Mobile with two mechanical feet and a shield. The battle takes place in a wide arena with two platforms on each side. The boss will run towards either side of the screen before crashing in an invisible barrier. The player, as the Werehog, must hit the boss after this a total of twelve times to defeat it.
Trivia[]
- Chun-Nan's placement in this game is odd, as its equivalent in the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version and Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed, Dragon Road, appears as the fifth or fourth stage, respectively, and the first stage is Windmill Village, in Apotos. In this game, Chun-Nan replaces Apotos as the first Zone, as well as its role in the plot. Meanwhile, Apotos appears as the second Zone.
