The Chroma Cube,[1] also referred to as the Black Mound,[2] is an obstacle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of Container which can only be broken under special circumstances.

Chroma Cubes are solid cube-shaped black containers made of several segments of metal. They have a white-multicolored core in their center and two white lines across the middle of each surface from each edge.

In the Wii version of Sonic Colors and Sonic Colors: Ultimate, the Chroma Cubes can be encounter in all the Areas of the game. In gameplay, they serve as obstructions for certain collectables or paths, and plaforms to walk upon. They also either lie on the floor, float in midair, or are buried underground. Like other Containers, the Chroma Cubes may also hide items inside them.

Chroma Cubes are unmovable and can only be destroyed by certain offensive Color Powers, namely the Cyan Laser, Blue Cube, Pink Spikes, Purple Frenzy, or Yellow Drill, and Super Sonic when he boost into them. However, not all Color Powers can destroy the Chroma Cubes at the same rate: the Blue Cube can destroy all Chroma Cubes in an area with one attack, the Cyan Laser, Pink Spikes, and Purple Frenzy only destroy them upon physical contact and the Yellow Drill takes a couple of seconds to penetrate just one.

  • The Chroma Cube is the third most used Container in Sonic Colors.
