Chicio Marxio is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. He is a native from Super Marxio World and one of the Marxio Brothers, a trio of villainous electricians closely allied with Dr. Ivo Robotnik. During the RBR era, Chicio and his brothers would run Robotnik's various casino and carnival Zones.

Concept and creation

Chicio was created by Nigel Kitching and Richard Elson. He, along with his brothers, are based on the Marx Brothers. Chicio is specifically based on the stage persona of Chico Marx, who was a dim-witted albeit crafty con artist, seemingly of rural Italian origin.

Appearance

Chicio is a short, middle-aged man with a short black mustache and black hair hidden under his red cap, which he wears backwards. He wears blue overalls, a white shirt, and brown shoes.

History

Past

Chicio and his brothers were three electricians who came from Super Marxio World, a place they are terrified of. It is implied that they were brought out of this world to Mobius by Dr. Robotnik, after which they worked to run his 'commercial ventures'.[1]

Ruled by Robotnik

Chicio met Robotnik in the Casino Night Zone, where he and his brothers were given the task of stopping Sonic. The brothers released Badniks to attack Sonic, and while the hedgehog was distracted with taking them down, the Marxio Brothers captured Porker, and through holding him hostage, tied both him and Sonic on a train railroad for a train to run them over.[1]

Sonic managed to get him and his pig pal out of the trap, and gave chase after the brothers. He then engaged in combat with them in an attempt to take the Disruptor from them, but despite failing to do so, the tool was destroyed, allowing the casinos in the park to become non-rigged.[2]

The Marxio Brothers were soon put in charge of the Carnival Night Zone on the Floating Island. Upon the arrival and intrusion of Knuckles into their park, Grouchio attempted to shoot Knuckles with a rifle, but with Knuckles evading and cornering them, they quickly offered him a deal.[3]

Grouchio offered Knuckles some of the profits that they'd be making from the amusement parking, arguing that Knuckles could use the money to fix up the island while he waited for his lost people to come back. Agreeing, Knuckles was taken to try out the Hell House Ride. Unbeknownst to him, Chicio and his brothers will planning on using the ride to kill Knuckles.[4]

With Knuckles accepting their proposal soon after the ride, he was shown his knew office. Chicio and his brothers, however, were soon forced to turn on Knuckles when the echidna attempted to destroy the Launch Base Zone and rid the isle of Robotnik, since the brothers were secretly working for the mad man unbeknownst to Knuckles. Confronting Knuckles in the Marxio Kart, they battled and took down the echidna.[5][6]

However, while the brothers were distracted on the phone with Robotnik, Knuckles managed to escape, but the brothers gave chase. However, Knuckles caught a break from them when the first visitors to the new park arrived, forcing the brothers to go off and welcome them. In the mean time, Chicio called a horde of Badniks to deal with Knuckles, but the echidna destroyed all of them and, by using a fault line, punched the entire park off his island alongside the brothers.[7][8]

Post-Ruled by Robotnik

Chicio would later work at the the Chemical Plant when Grouchio Marxio was put in charge of the place. With his brothers and him seemingly reformed thanks to no longer being under the rule of Robotnik, they asked Sonic and Tails to help with a problem they had with their factory. The heroes then discovered and defeated Megatox, the source of the problems, garnering thank and praise from Chicio and his brothers, although Sonic still remained skeptical about their true intentions.[9][10]

Personality

Chicio is notably less intelligent than Grouchio Marxio, which the latter calls him out on. He often makes mistakes and messes up their plans, often causing Grouchio to insult him. Despite this, he still respects his brother greatly and refers to him as "boss" and even works for Grouchio without pay.

Trivia

  • Chicio is a clear mockery and parody of the Super Mario Brothers, Mario and Luigi.
  • Chicio and his brothers have a video game series based off of them, although Sonic is not a fan - "who cares about the adventures of three electricians?"[11]
