Charlie is a character that appears in the Sonic Boom television series. He is an anthropomorphic animal from the Village on Bygone Island and a former archeologist driven to villainy as a result of Knuckles the Echidna's buffoonery.

Appearance

Charlie is a lanky humanoid animal with green eyes and light blue fur. In terms of height, he is more than a head shorter than Knuckles. He has short cheek tuffs, small round ears on top of his head, and a light peach medium-long muzzle with a black nose. He also has long fur on his head arranged in a comb over and a long tail with a tuff on the tip. His attire consists of a white shirt with pens a left chest pocket, square black glasses, white gloves, grey socks, and beige shoes with grey soles.

History

TV series

Years ago, Charlie worked as a grocer boy, but got fired due to Knuckles' consistent foolery with the inventory. He soon found a new job at Mr. Slate's dig site and made himself a good life with his wife.[1]

When Charlie met Knuckles again years later, the echidna wanted to amends for what he did. While Charlie assured him not to as he had forgotten it all, Knuckles still did it. However, Knuckles' horrid attempts to help cost Charlie his job, home and wife. Driven mad, Charlie swore vengeance. Restoring an Ancient mech weapon from the dig site, Charlie began bullying Knuckles with his newfound power until the echidna fought back. Although Charlie was beaten and a (fake) truce was made, he had won back his wife's admiration and found a new job as a supervillain.[1]

Personality

Charlie is a mild-mannered guy taking diligent pleasure in his work. At first, he was not much for confrontation, making him unwilling to stand up for himself, and was not one to bear long-time grudges. After losing his job and being kicked out by his wife, Charlie became aggressive, vengeful and an unreasonable bully who picks mercilessly on his victims. On the positive side though, he became much more assertive as well. Having since sworn to never let anyone wrong him again, he shows no hesitation to seek strife and even fight dirty.[1]

Powers and abilities

Charlie is quite an accomplished archeologist, having unearthed and fully restored shattered artifacts and even a millennium old weapon from the Ancients.[1]

Charlie wields a powerful mech suit from the time of the Ancients which he stole from a dig site. This weapon lets him battle on even grounds with the likes of Knuckles. It can also fire energy beams for either immobilizing or blasting opponents. At first, Charlie had some trouble controlling it, but he has since mastered it.[1]

Relationships

Knuckles the Echidna

Knuckles the Echidna is Charlie's most hated enemy, being the cause of his greatest losses and the catalyst for his turn to villainy. Although Charlie would show frustration at Knuckles for how his foolery affected him, he always suppressed his anger towards him. However, after Knuckles ruined his life, Charlie snapped and gained an explosive hatred for him. He subsequently became a supervillain and made it his mission to torment Knuckles. Ironically though, Knuckles also made Charlie start standing up for himself which changed his life for the better.[1]

Charlie's wife

Charlie and his wife

Charlie and his wife being evil together.

Charlie is very fond of his wife, referring to her as "sweetheart" and "honey," even though they have their arguments. He is also shown to be very uncomfortable about disappointing her. In fact, his wife leaving him was the final straw that pushed Charlie over the brink into villainy. However, Charlie won her back by proving his newfound assertiveness after becoming a villain, who in turn fully supported his new career choice with evil glee by faking a truce with Knuckles for him.[1]
