Character Conflicts[1] are events that appear in the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut. They are a variant of the traditional boss fights that involve two of the game's playable characters fighting each other, much like rival bosses.

Description[]

The Character Conflicts are a different take on the regular Boss battles in the respective games, in which two playable characters fight each other in an Adventure Fields, much like a mini-boss. These battles can be only accessed by proceeding with the respective story modes, and cannot be accessed in the games' Trial mode, nor do they give scores at the end of their battle. Also, instead of health meters for the opponents in these battles, there are hit counters that decrease for each hit the player deals to the opponent.

The strategy for the Characters Conflicts are simple: land three hits on an opponent to win. When fighting, the opponent can only use the standard gameplay moves available to them. These moves can clash with the player's attacks, flinging both participants back a ways in a daze before resuming battle. Generally, for each hit the opponents receive, they will start using another attack (e.g., Knuckles begins using Glide after taking two hits). Otherwise, the Character Conflicts are fairly easy and usually only last a few seconds.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Knuckles, having once again been tricked by Dr. Eggman, runs into Sonic and Tails in the Mystic Ruins. Having been told by the doctor that Sonic was after the Emerald Shards, and spotting the green Chaos Emerald in Sonic’s possession, Knuckles attacks Sonic and Tails, prompting the trio to fight.

Gamma later encounters and battles Sonic aboard the Egg Carrier as per the request of Dr. Eggman.

Boss guide[]

In battle, Sonic will fight in the same manner whether the player is fighting him as Gamma or Knuckles. He also has no extra moves that are not available during normal gameplay, making his moves rather predictable. With each hit he takes, Sonic will change his strategy.

  • Sonic will just Spin Attack at the player when he has not been damaged yet.
  • Sonic will do a quick-performed Spin Dash at the player once he takes the first hit.
  • Sonic will use the Homing Attack at the player after taking two hits.

Knuckles the Echidna[]

Knuckles, having once again been tricked by Eggman, runs into Sonic and Tails in the Mystic Ruins. Having been told by the doctor that Sonic was after the Emerald Shards, and spotting the green Chaos Emerald in Sonic’s possession, Knuckles attacks Sonic and Tails, prompting the trio to fight.

Boss guide[]

In battle, Knuckles will fight in the same manner whether the player is using Sonic or Tails. He also has no extra moves that are not available during normal gameplay, making his moves rather predictable. With each hit he takes, Knuckles will change his strategy.

  • At first, Knuckles will do his full charged Punch Attack at the player if he has not been damaged yet.
  • After the first hit, he will do a slower version of the Spin Attack at the player.
  • After the second hit, he will jump and glide in a circular motion toward the player.

Boss guide[]

In battle, Gamma will fight in the same manner whether the player is using Sonic or Tails. He also has no extra moves that are not available during his gameplay, making his moves rather predictable. With each hit he takes, Gamma will change his strategy.

  • Gamma will first attack with Lock-On Missiles while the player runs towards him if he has not been damaged yet.
  • Gamma will use his Jet Booster to hover and lock on the player multiple times if he takes his first hit.

Trivia[]

  • Interestingly, Gamma does have to build up speed to turn into his wheel mode in gameplay. However in the battle against him, he can turn it on automatically.
  • During the fight against Gamma, he says "Resistance is Futile," which is a direct reference to Star Trek: The Next Generation.
