A close attack across three lanes, plus a ranged blast. Nothing less for the Ultimate Knight.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Chaos Slash is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description[]

The Chaos Slash's icon takes the form of Arondight leaving a red slashing trail. In gameplay, this power-up becomes a wide red slash with Arondight, followed up by a red Chaos Spear.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Chaos Slash can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Sir Lancelot. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Chaos Slash if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Chaos Slash by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. In addition, when obtaining the Chaos Charge, there is a chance of obtaining up to three Chaos Charges to use in the Projectile Item slot on the HUD from a single Item Box. When used, the user performs a horizontal sword slash around themselves that can damage rival characters adjacent to them, in front of them, or behind them, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. In addition, when unleashing the Chaos Slash, the user launches a red Chaos Spear that travels down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user. While this Chaos Spear will pass through the rival characters it hits, it will dissipate if it collides with an obstacle or travels too far. Rival characters hit by the Chaos Spear will take damage too. To avoid the Chaos Slash's slashing attack, the playable character either has to jump when Arondight is about to hit them or get to a lane that the attack cannot reach. To avoid the Chaos Spear followed up by the slash, the player has to either jump over it or get out of its lane.

The Chaos Slash can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6 and 12 respectively. For each upgrade, the player will be more likely to obtain multiple Chaos Slashes from a single Item Box.
