Chaos Island (カオス島 Kaosu-tō?) is the fifth stage in Shadow Generations. It is based on the location of the same name from Sonic Frontiers.
Description[]
A mostly gray environment with landscapes of stone, and the ancient temples from the Sonic Frontiers version of the location. Chaos Island is set in the day with a partly cloudy sky, there's also a mix of coast line cliffs and in Act 2 there are the hot springs from the original island. The underground sections from Sonic Frontiers also make an appearance in the second act.
Story[]
After Shadow is granted the Doom Morph Power by Black Doom, Chaos Island located in White Space appears next to the Space Colony ARK stage area. Shadow must run through Chaos Island in order to face the last boss before the final one. Once Shadow runs through the whole stage, he battles Sonic while holding back on his Doom Powers, to lose and give Sonic the Fake Emerald. He meets up with Rouge who admires what Shadow did with the Emerald as he explains the plan to swap the fake for the real one when Sonic is getting ready to face the Time Eater.
Gameplay[]
Overview[]
Act 1[]
A fully linear 3D take on the original location from Sonic Frontiers. The stage brings you through multiple locations from the island, including the odd pillar structures.
Act 2[]
A fully linear 2D take of the island.
White Space[]
The area in white space features the arch like structure that is seen in Sonic Frontiers in the same island, along with the gray stone and a cliff that you have to climb in order to get to the stage using Doom Morph. The platforms, springs, buttons, and pulleys are the same as in the main stage and Sonic Frontiers. Before the challenge gates are passed, all of the environment surrounding the stage entrance is washed of color. Located next to Space Colony ARK.

Trivia[]
- Chaos Island is the only stage in Shadow Generations that Shadow was never playable in from the original game.
- Between Sonic Generations, its Nintendo 3DS version, and Shadow Generations, Chaos Island is the second stage where the playable character was never playable in the original stage, the first being Radical Highway in the 3DS version.
- Furthermore, Chaos Island is the only stage in any of the three games where the playable character is completely absent from its original game.
- However, the fact he goes here during the events of Shadow Generations may explain why there are areas in Cyber Space based on Radical Highway and Sky Rail by the time of Sonic Frontiers, two areas that Sonic never goes to but Shadow does. Despite this, the stages that use them, 2-4 and 2-6, respectively, are located on Ares Island.
- Despite Shadow not being present in Sonic Frontiers, Chaos Island is the only island where Sonic mentions Shadow in one of his idle lines.
- Shadow's time on Chaos Island is revealed to occur simultaneously with the events of Sonic Frontiers, as the eruption of the volcano is triggered by Sonic's completion of the Pinball Island Mystery.
- This is the second stage in Shadow Generations whose original game released after Sonic Generations, with the first being Sunset Heights.
- Unlike other stages, stage elements like Springs, Pulleys, and Balloons use their designs and color schemes from Sonic Frontiers, rather than their traditional designs.
- This is one of the two stages that Black Doom does not interfere mid-stage, the other one being Kingdom Valley.
- This is the only stage that features enemies that aren't from G.U.N., the Eggman Empire, or the Black Arms.
