History[]
Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebooks[]
Past[]
The Chaos Emeralds have mysterious origins for their creations being left unknown.
At some point prior to the events of the series, the benign Dr Ovi Kintobor discovered the Chaos Emeralds and attempted to neutralize their chaos, a decision which turned out to be catastrophic as his machines overloaded from the energy of the Chaos Emeralds and turned him into the evil Doctor Ivo Robotnik, who hid the Emeralds in the Warps of Confusion to make sure Sonic the Hedgehog, a former friend of Kintober, couldn't find them. But ironically, he did.[1]
Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebook 1: Metal City Mayhem[]
Sometime before the events of the book, Dr. Robotnik found a Chaos Emerald from its orbiting labyrinth, and decided to use it for his plans for world conquering and getting rid of his nemesis Sonic by placing it into the heart of his newest creation, the Technobot.[2]
Later on, when he was traveling in Robotropolis, Sonic stumbles upon a star-shaped building that was a disguise for the Technobot that had a Chaos Emerald that he concluded was powering the city. However, any attempts he tries to free it are impossible due to it being too high for him to reach.
Eventually, after Sonic defeats the Technobot, the Chaos Emerald powering the robot floats back into the sky.
Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebook 2: Zone Rangers[]
The Chaos Emeralds play the biggest role here than in any of the other books. Prior to the start of the book, Robotnik used his teleporter devices to place Chaos Emeralds all over Mobius, with him planning to take advantage of the confusion and disruption they cause and become the new ruler of Mobius.[3]
Sonic and Tails go around collecting Chaos Emeralds with Sonic being able to get a Chaos Emerald in the Jungle Zone, which he soon loses when he accidentally crashes a party at Scrap Brain City and gets in three hands of Galen, but gets it back alongside the Chaos Emerald powering the High Tower. Tails can also get a Chaos Emerald that's powering the teleporter at Hill Top Zone, but it's considered optional and doesn't play a big factor in the plot.
Upon reaching Space Station Eyrie, a helpful android named Ross suggests to Sonic and Tails they can hide the Chaos Emeralds in the Warps of Confusion. which they agree to.
