Chaos Blast (カオスブラスト, Kaosu Burasuto^?) is a chaos power that is used by Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow Android and Sir Lancelot. It is a great explosion of chaos energy that damages anything and anyone caught within its radius.

Description

Like its name, it is an explosion of highly powerful negative chaos energy that damages all that is within range, which varies between games. In most games, Shadow can use it after charging the chaos energy inside his body and firing it outside, which greatly damages, or even destroys, the enemy. Like other chaos powers, it can be powered up with the Chaos Emeralds to become even stronger.

Shadow the Hedgehog

This move was introduced in Shadow the Hedgehog. In this game, Shadow and and the Shadow Android can only perform Chaos Blast when in Dark Shadow form, which they can only enter by filling up their Dark Gauges. When used, the user unleashes a massive shockwave that destroys everything within a 20-yard range and makes any enemies that it comes in contact with lose a significant amount of health. In the boss fight against the Egg Dealer, if Shadow lined up three Shadow icons on its slot machine, he would activate Shadow Fever which instantly fills the Dark Gauge, allowing usage of Chaos Blast. Chaos Blast can also be used in quick succession to gain altitude, although normal gameplay only allows for three unless the blasts cause enough destruction to fill the Dark gauge further. Chaos Blast can also bypass shields like Diablon's and damage him, making it very powerful in combating bosses. It should also be noted that any item picked up while using the Chaos Blast will not be affected.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

In Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow can use the Chaos Blast when he activates the Chaos Boost Level 3. In this game, the Chaos Blast is a small blast of red energy in the immediate one-yard area around the user, which can only be used while in the air. Although the attack can destroy any enemy instantly, regardless of defense, it will not hit unless the player is very close to them.

While initiating the move, the player is invulnerable to attacks.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Chaos Blast is one of Shadow's POW moves. When performing Chaos Blast in this game, Shadow walks up in front of the opposing team, jumps up and fires the Chaos Blast in the form of a purple beam from the palm of his hands at his opponents, then retreats.

In gameplay, Chaos Blast deals attack damage to a chosen target. When dealing damage, Chaos Blast inflicts Blast damage to nearby foes, and also has a chance of inflicting weaken on the target. The higher the level of Chaos Blast is, the more attack damage it will deal and the greater the possibility that it will inflict weaken on the target.

Real-Time Interaction

When performing Chaos Blast in gameplay, the player has to complete a series of real-time events by performing certain actions on the Touch Screen, in order to execute Chaos Blast optimally:

1. The player has to touch the inside of six circles in succession when the outer circles overlap the inner circles.
2. The player has to tap an inner circle that appears eight times before the outer circle overlap the inner circle

Missing or not touching these circles correctly will either result in Shadow missing the strike or the damage from the attack being reduced.

Sonic and the Black Knight

In Sonic and the Black Knight, Sir Lancelot possesses an exclusive Skill, named "Knight of Chaos", that allows him to perform the Chaos Blast as a part of his Chaos Punishment.

During the mission "Lancelot Returns" in Deep Woods, where the player has to defeat Lancelot, Lancelot can perform the Chaos Blast, which not only damages the player upon contact, but also briefly acts as a shield, blocking the player from attacking Sir Lancelot for a short time.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Chaos Blast is utilized as Shadow's All-Star Move. It is a short-ranged blast of red energy that will inflict damage to any racer or obstacle caught in its vicinity.

Sonic Runners

In Sonic Runners, during the "Birthday on Windy Hill" event, Shadow used a Chaos Blast in order to destroy a Death Egg drone and save Team Sonic.

In other media

Sonic Boom

In the Sonic Boom franchise, the Chaos Blast is a move used by Shadow the Hedgehog. So far, it has only appeared in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

Trivia

• In Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, Shadow's Special Power was initially called "Chaos Blast" but was later renamed to "Chaos Spear."
• In Sonic and the Black Knight, Amy has a similar move called Rose Typhoon, which causes a giant pink explosion.
• In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Knuckles' All-Star Move allows him to use the Master Emerald to create a powerful blast similar to Chaos Blast.
• In the Sonic Twitter Takeover 4 video on YouTube, user @4BrandonJS4 asks Shadow why he needs his Air Shoes to run fast while Sonic doesn't, and this angers Shadow so much that he uses his Chaos Blast, much to the horror of Sonic, Tails and Eggman who are standing right next to him. Shadow later mentions that when he used Chaos Blast, he destroyed the robots that Eggman hid above them earlier. This video hints that extreme anger activates the Chaos Blast.
• On the back packaging of the Jakks Pacific 4" articulated Shadow action figure, Chaos Blast is mentioned as one of his special abilities.
