"Chao Tales - Ep. 3" is the third episode of the online web series Chao Tales. It first aired on 17 April 2025, on the Sonic the Hedgehog series official social media accounts.
Synopsis[]
It's a special day for the Chao; a whole bunch of little animals have come to visit! It's time for the Chao to pick out their favorite traits and transform. But when the Shadow Chao gets a bit too greedy, they run the risk of becoming something terrifying...

Plot[]
It begins with the group of Chao peacefully resting in the Chao Garden. Suddenly, they hear a rustle noise and turn to see Sonic returning, bringing along a small group of animals for them. The animals eagerly approach the Chao, allowing each one to absorb traits from the animals: one Chao gains a pair of bird wings, while another sprouts floppy rabbit ears. Sonic smiles warmly, watching the Chao play and enjoy themselves.
However, unnoticed by the others, the Shadow Chao watches from atop a nearby rock, looking visibly irritated by the joyful scene. Without warning, the Shadow Chao leaps down and begins forcefully stealing animal traits from both the animals and other Chao, leaving everyone, including Sonic, shocked. Absorbing the traits, the Shadow Chao transforms into an amalgamation of all the different animals combined. It grins mischievously, clearly pleased with itself, only to suddenly fall over anticlimactically. Sonic proceeds to kneel down in front of the Shadow Chao with an unamused look as the episode ends.
