Chao Garden[2] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a café themed around colorful mascot characters known as Chao.
Description[]
The Chao Garden is a themed café located in Tokyo heavily themed around Chao. Light fixtures shaped like Chao heads hang from the ceiling, while egg-shaped lights are affixed to walls. The restaurant's tables have bases designed after Chao Eggs, with purple, flowerlike surfaces with a round light in the center.
The café features a stage adorned with pastel egg-shaped lights and a neon sign displaying the café's name in both English and Japanese. Chao mascots can be seen performing onstage as well as simply roaming the café.
Interestingly, parts of the walls and floor are decorated with a brown checkerboard design, resembling Green Hill Zone. Iconography from a separate planet within their universe.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]
During the Project Shadow incident, Team Sonic goes to the Chao Garden after the first showdown with Shadow. They meet Commander Walters at the restaurant to learn more about Shadow. While they are chatting however, a group of Egg Drones fire missiles at Team Sonic's table. A masked figure rides a motorcycle into the restaurant, silently neutralizing the Badniks with small EMP mines before riding away just as quickly as he came.
Commander Walters gets crushed under rubble, but Sonic helps to get it off of him. Walters, gravely injured, gives Team Sonic a key to G.U.N.'s most powerful weapon, telling them they're the only ones he can trust with it before falling unconscious. As G.U.N. soldiers arrive at the building, Team Sonic dons Chao mascot heads to sneak out, refusing to trust the organization after Walters' final words, before chasing after the masked rider in search of answers. Director Rockwell searches Commander Walter's body for the key, only finding a photo taken of Team Sonic at their table before the attack. Rockwell, who had always regarded the aliens with contempt, assumes Team Sonic had stolen the key, making them once again an enemy of G.U.N.
Trivia[]
- The location is based off of the location of the same name, first introduced in Sonic Adventure.
- Interestingly, the stage's brown-checkered walls and grass are based off the ones from Sonic's island. It's unknown if this was a coincidence in-verse while Mobius (Sonic's homeplanet) is probably unknown to Earth's inhabitants.
- The Chao Garden's signage is based on the logo of the Tiny Chao Garden, first introduced in Sonic Advance.
- A 2.5" articulated pack of the Chao Garden featuring Sonic, Tales and Knuckles with a table, chair and cake was scheduled for release, but was scrapped for an unknown reason.
