The Caterkiller Jr.[1][note 1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, caterpillar-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman, and the counterpart of the Catakiller, Jr. from an alternate dimension set in the recent past.

Based on caterpillars, Caterkiller Jrs.' bodies are composed of seven blue and spherical segments. The first of these segments serves as the head which has small black eyes. Their next three body segments after the head have electricity generator rings around them.

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Caterkiller Jrs. are enemies found in Chemical Plant Zone Act 2. In Sonic Mania Plus' Encore Mode, they are also encountered in Angel Island Zone. In gameplay, Caterkiller Jrs. hover back and forth at medium speed in midair. When the playable characters get close to them, they will release electrical waves from the generator rings on their body segments which can damage the player. The player is able to destroy Caterkiller Jrs. by attacking their heads with a Spin Attack-related move. Touching any other part of their body, even if they are not releasing their electric attack, will damage the playable character. Upon their destruction, they will release an Animal and award the player with 100 points.

Powers and abilities

Caterkiller Jrs. are capable of flight. Their body segments can also release electrical waves which can be lethal for anyone who touches them.
