Casinonightboss-1-

Catcher Eggman (キャッチャーエッグマン Kyatchāegguman?) is the fourth boss that the player encountered in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It appears at the end of Casino Night Zone Act 2. Years later it is seen as second boss at Casino Street Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I. In both games, it is piloted by Doctor Eggman and takes eight hits to take it down.

Catcher Eggman is similar to a stylish-ed Eggmobile with number of flashing, colorful details on it. It also seem to have shape of UFO. It has yellow leg-like claws on the bottom, has multiple colors of red, blue, yellow, and grey on the top and on the torso, and is grey on the torso. In both games, the player has to battle Catcher Eggman on large pinball arena with numerous pinball elements and gimmicks.

Game Appearances

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

At the end of Casino Night Zone Act 2 in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the boss battle takes place in an enclosed area with two sets of pinball flippers and single triangle in the middle. The player is able to move normally on by using ramps to move above pinball sections by using Spin Attack or doing Spin Dash to gain more speed. Above section has numerous amount of bumpers, which the player can use to balance on and attack into Eggmobile above. When the player arrives to the arena, the enter route will be closed down for the boss fight.

The boss itself is Dr. Robotnik in his Eggmobile, which floats back and forth across the area. The bottom of the Eggmobile drops red, spiked balls that release two small purple balls on impact. While not dropping small red mines, the bottom of the Eggmobile is protected by a field of electricity. In order for one to defeat Catcher Eggman, one must either use the flippers to launch Sonic in the air and land on top of Robotnik, or use Spin Dash and move up one of the walls and land on top of Robotnik, but this only works with Spin Dash because you will lose rings if not using Spin Dash.

Like the other bosses in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Catcher Eggman takes eight hits to defeat. After this, the player can get out the pinball arena and open the capsule on right pathway, thus ending the zone.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Catcher Eggman makes another appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I as the second boss in the Casino Street Zone. Once again, it is piloted by Dr. Eggman. Like in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it takes place on pinball arena, that has slightly differently placed gimmicks now with only two flippers. The boss battle is also slightly different, as Eggman is able now to catch Sonic by firing the yellow claw-add on to him instead of landing to the ground with Eggmobile. Eggman can also grab Sonic and let go of him above three sets of spikes, which are hidden in the center bottom of pinball arena.

After four hits, Catcher Eggman will perform a new attack, that allows Dr. Eggman to put a shield on top of him and his mech and then he will spin around the screen and when shielded, contact with the mech will result in losing all your rings. The player can hit after Catcher Eggman is on it's regular form. After another four hits, Eggman gets defeated and flies away, while the player is able to get out the arena and open the capsule, thus ending the zone.

Cather Eggman later returns in E.G.G. Station Zone, that is boss rush of the game before the final boss. After doing one hit, it will then activate the new attack, which the player has to look out. It will take four hits to defeat it again and move then to the next boss.

Trivia

  • In Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Catcher Eggman's spinning technique bears similarity to the Screwattack from the Metroid Series.
