California is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a state located in the United States.
History
Film series
Past
In the recent past, Tom Wachowski applied to the SFPD, who after some time accepted his application and send him his invitation to join the San Francisco police force. In anticipation of this Tom's wife, Maddie Wachowski, began looking for a new home in San Francisco.
Sonic the Hedgehog
With Tom and Maddie's exit from Green Hills almost complete, Maddie flew to San Francisco with Ozzie to stay with Rachel and Jojo, while Tom wrapped up things in Green Hills. However, while at home, Tom discovered Sonic the Hedgehog in his garage, whom he shot with a tranquilizer gun in horror upon seeing him. As he lost consciousness, a drowsy Sonic accidentally sent his remaining Rings to the Transamerica Pyramid.
Days later, a hurt Sonic and Tom arrived in San Francisco in California, where Tom took Sonic to Maddie. After Maddie revitalized Sonic, Sonic, Tom and Maddie went to the Transamerica Pyramid and retrieved Sonic's Rings, only for them to be attacked by Dr. Robotnik aboard his Eggpod. After Sonic sent Tom and Maddie to Green Hills with a Ring, he was pursued by Robotnik across San Francisco, before going to Paris through a Ring, only for Robotnik to follow him through it.

Sonic the Hedgehog: The Adventures of Sonic & Donut Lord
With Tom and Maddie's exit from Green Hills almost complete, Maddie went to San Francisco while Tom wrapped up things in Green Hills. However, while at home, Tom discovered Sonic the Hedgehog, who accidently ended up sending his Rings to the Transamerica Pyramid following his first personal encounter with Tom.[1]
Days later, Sonic and Tom arrived in San Francisco in California. Picking up Maddie along the way, Sonic and Tom went to the Transamerica Pyramid and retrieved Sonic's Rings, only for them to be attacked by Dr. Robotnik aboard his Eggpod. After Sonic sent Tom and Maddie to Green Hills with a Ring, Sonic tried escaping California through another Ring portal, only for Dr. Robotnik to follow him through the Ring portal.[1]

Around the World in 80 Seconds
After defeating Robotnik, Sonic went to Los Angeles in California after starting a travel diary to keep track of the many locations he visited since making his home in Green Hills.
