The Buton (ブートン[1] Būton?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, pig-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.
Appearance[]
Based on domestic pigs, Butons resemble closely Ball Hogs in terms of design. They have a dark gray color scheme with orange snouts, hands, and bellies. They also possess two blue eyes.
Overview[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit), Butons are found exclusively in Gimmick Mt. Zone. Unlike the Ball Hogs, Butons do not throw explosive bombs, but instead hops around in one place. Once this Badnik notices the player, it starts bouncing towards them. After three hops, Butons hop in one place for while before repeating their attack pattern. If the player gets far enough away though, they will hop in the opposite direction.
The player can easily defeat Butons by attacking them with any Spin Attack-related moves. Like many other Badniks in the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear games, Butons do not contain any Animals, or any known power source.
Powers and abilities[]
Butons are capable of constantly jumping around to attack intruders.
Trivia[]
- Buton's name is most likely derived from the Japanese word buta, meaning "pig" or "pork".
- In their artwork, Butons have a silver coloring, with red snouts, hands, and bellies, with their eyes also being black. Presumably due to palette limitations, this is color scheme not present in-game.
