The Burrowbot[1] (ドリリン[2] Doririn?, lit. "Drillin") is an enemy that appears in the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. They are mole-based Badnik models created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

Drillin Sprite

Based on moles, the Burrowbots look like upgraded models of their namesake Burrobots, having similar tracked wheels running between two wheels on each side and a cone-shaped drill for a nose. Also, the shade on their yellow hard hats are upturned and they wear black goggles. Their arms also have round shoulders and spear-shaped yellow hands.

Overview

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit), Burrowbots appear only in Gimmick Mt. Zone. They are usually positioned on tight pathways or along steep corridors. They are hidden underground, so only their noses are seen poking out of the ground.

As Sonic approaches a Burrowbot, it pops out of the ground and follows him. If the player gets too far away, it simply moves back and forth in one place. Also, when Sonic uses a Spin Jump, the Burrowbots leap two times in one place before following him. Like many other Badniks in the game, Burrowbots do not contain any Animals.
