Heh... My friends. I've not had them in my life for long... but I will do everything I can to keep them safe!

— Burning Blaze, Sonic the Hedgehog #9

Burning Blaze[1] is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a transformation of Blaze the Cat, achieved by harnessing the power of the seven Sol Emeralds.[1]

Visual changes to Blaze following her transformation include her lavender fur becoming pink, the tip of her tail turning red, and the highlights at the end of her ponytail having been erased completely. Her ponytail and tail tip also become slightly wilder, like flames. Her tailcoat becomes red, with its bottom rim having changed from a dark pink to a golden shade of yellow. The cuffs on her gloves and shoes are turned into magenta and flames which move slightly up her sleeves and leggings. Lastly, she is usually covered in a flaming aura.

Battle For Angel Island

When launching an attack on a fortified Angel Island, which had been taken over by Neo Metal Sonic, Blaze left her team's ship while it was being gunned down by the Egg Fleet, and transformed into Burning Blaze with the Sol Emeralds. Flying the rest of the way to Angel Island, Burning Blaze enacted her part of the Resistance's plan to free Angel Island by attacking the Egg Fleet, all while noting to herself that she had to finish up quickly and help her friends on the island.[1] She was soon after contacted by Amy, and told her that she would be with the others soon. However, while battling the Egg Fleet, Burning Blaze noticed that her transformation was beginning to run out. Seeking to finish her part of the plan now, Burning Blaze channeled the last of her strength into a massive fireball that blew the Egg Fleet's left wing unit on Angel Island off the island. Her powers drained, Blaze de-transformed and landed on Angel Island.[2]

Out of the Blue

Blaze later used the Sol Emeralds to briefly take the form of Burning Blaze in order to help an amnesiac Sonic regain his memories with her power. Her plan worked, and Sonic was restored to normal as Blaze powered down.[3]

Powers and abilities

As Burning Blaze, Blaze's innate abilities far surpass her normal ones. Her speed has been increased to the point where she can reach a far-away Angel Island in a relatively short amount of time, and her pyrokinetic abilities have been vastly enhanced, enough for her to destroy an Egg Fleet battlecruiser with a single beam of fire and blow up an island-sized metal wing with a massive fireball.[1][2] With the Sol Emeralds' power, Blaze can also use her flames for psychological purposes. Most noticeably, she was able to restore an amnesiac Sonic's memories by showing him his memories within flames.[3] In addition, she has gained the power of flight and is invulnerable to harm.[1][2]

Burning Blaze can only stay transformed for a short time as her transformation consumes tremendous amounts of energy.[2]
