Burning Blaze (バーニングブレイズ Bāningu Bureizu?)[1][2] is a transformation of Blaze the Cat achieved by harnessing the power of the seven Sol Emeralds. The player uses her in the true final boss battles of the Sonic Rush series.

Appearance

Visual changes to Blaze following her transformation include her lavender fur becoming pink, the tip of her tail turning red, and the highlights at the end of her ponytail having been erased completely. Her coat also becomes red, with its hemline having changed from a dark pink to a golden shade of yellow. The cuffs on her gloves and shoes are also turned into magenta flames which move slightly up her sleeves and tights. Lastly, she is usually covered in a flaming red aura.

Powers and abilities

As Burning Blaze, her powers include the traditional flight and invulnerability abilities, as well as an enhancement to her pyrokinesis, which includes the ability to throw fireballs. She is able to either fire small fireballs in rapid succession or charge her fireballs to make them larger and more powerful. She can also perform the Burning Fire Boost to give herself an increase in speed and to plow through obstacles.

She also receives a significant increase in speed and strength; her speed is enhanced to the point where she is able to keep up with Super Sonic, and she is strong enough to send the Egg Wizard flying with a single uppercut.

Like most super transformations, she requires Rings to maintain her transformation and if she runs out of Rings, she will revert back to normal.

  • "Take this!" - Burning Blaze, defeating the Egg Salamander alongside Super Sonic.
  • "I first came here as a stranger out of nowhere. I think it's appropriate that I leave the same way." - Burning Blaze as the dimensions returns to normal.
  • "I understand now... My inherent power over fire..." - Burning Blaze realizing that her fire-powers are a gift and not a curse.
  • "I'll see you again." - Burning Blaze, after hearing Sonic's message at the end of Sonic Rush.
  • "You're right, Sonic. But... How are we supposed to fight them without getting in each other's way?" - Burning Blaze asking Super Sonic about their strategy, as they begin the fight the Egg Wizard.

Trivia

  • The first time Blaze became Burning Blaze in Sonic Rush was her first time ever using the Sol Emeralds' power. Both Dr. Eggman and Dr. Eggman Nega noted that she was unable to use them when they first attacked her with their Egg Salamander, but when she realized the importance of trusting others, she became able to transform.
  • Burning Blaze is easily mistaken for "Super Blaze" among fans.
  • Burning Blaze is the first transformation used by a female character in the game series and the first achieved by a female protagonist.
    • Burning Blaze was also the only transformation of a female protagonist in any Sonic media until the introduction of Overclocked Nicole, almost a decade later.
  • Burning Blaze is the first character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series to have her clothes change after a transformation.
  • Burning Blaze is the fourth character to transform into a specific form more than once in the series, right after Super Sonic, Perfect Chaos and Super Shadow.
  • Unlike Sonic and Silver, Blaze's eye color does not change when she transforms into Burning Blaze.
