The Bouncy Checkpoint,[1] also formatted Bouncy check point,[2] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a device somewhat reminiscent of a Star Post which bounces individuals who land on it.
Each Bouncy checkpoint is composed of a spinning red sphere with a white star, attached by a stretchy metallic link to a gold cylindrical base with a green stripe. When the player comes into contact with a bouncy checkpoint, the sphere will briefly glow yellow before returning to its regular red color.

In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, Bouncy Checkpoints are only found in Studiopolis Zone. In gameplay, they will bounce the player if they land on them, but unlike Springs, are more flexible and physics-based. As such, the direction these bounce the playable character in is heavily dependent on their momentum, and which direction they touch the Bouncy Checkpoint from.

The spherical part of the Bouncy Checkpoint is based on an unused set of sprites found within the data of Knuckles' Chaotix.
