Boost Challenge is one of the events featured in the World Tour of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Overview

Boost Challenge is an event that the player participates in alone. No racing opponents appear in this event. In Boost Challenge, the player's goal is to pass through a number checkpoints, which take the form of green gates that are scattered around the course, under a strict time limit. At the start of the event, the player is always granted a Boost item to kick-start or use it later in the event.

During this event, a time counter appears on the top of the screen's HUD that counts down during the whole event. If this time counter goes down to zero, the event will end and the player will lose. In order to manage the time counter, the player must perform a Boost maneuver with their race car. This can be done by using Boost Pads, Drift Boosts, or the Boost item received at the beginning of the event. When successfully executing a Boost manuever, the time counter will turn red and freeze for a while, thus preventing it from counting down. However, the time counter will only be frozen for as long as the Boost manuever is in effect; after unfreezing, it will begin counting down again. As such, the player must constantly boost their way by any means necessary throughout the course to conserve enough time left on the time counter to reach each checkpoint in order to complete the event. Driving through checkpoints also adds time to the time counter.

The player can choose the level of difficulty (C for Easy, B for Medium, A for Hard, and S for Expert). The higher the level, the more stars the player will receive for their victory (from 1 for Easy to 4 for Expert).

The difficulty selected will affect the number of checkpoints the player needs to pass through to complete, the starting time and the amount of time rewarded when passing through a checkpoint. As difficulty increases, the player will need to pass through more checkpoints, start the event with less time and less time will be awarded when passing through a checkpoint. The table below displays the number of checkpoints required to pass through for each difficulty:
