Boomer the Turtle, also known as Boomy or BoomBoom the Turtle, is a character that was set to appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anthropomorphic turtle who was meant to be the player two character during the development of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-bit). However, Tails was picked instead.[1]
Concept and creation[]
Craig Stitt designed Boomer and submitted him to be Sonic's buddy. He would have been a tough but vulnerable character, protected by his shell, but needing Sonic's help if he got flipped over onto his back. He was meant to be the player two character paired with Sonic the Hedgehog during the development of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He would be able to "fly" with Sonic's help to push him up to speed. Then Sonic would be able to ride on Boomer's back over spikes, water, and lava.[1]

IDW Publishing[]
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, Boomer makes a cameo in a single panel in the story "Sonic Learns to Drive". Here, he observes Sonic the Hedgehog's driving lesson with Kip the Capybara when Sonic makes a sharp turn through the streets. In this media, Boomer has a red shell on his back, a gray underbelly for his shell, yellow skin, and red and white sneakers.
