(Listen to this while reading, the name and song are incredibly fitting)
My friends, we have lost another user. His departure has left me with an uneasy feeling that I can't seem to dispel. As he left, we were discussing the fall this wiki has taken and the people we've lost. He talked about the pain being shut out causes. We were the only two in the chat room, further illustrating my point. And I was going to wait until January (my wikiversary) to initiate this, but my conversation with and subsequent departure of Geeky has compelled me. I'm beginning what I like to call Operation: Great Revival. We're going to try to get this wiki back on our feet again.
So what's the actual plan? To be honest, I have nothing necessarily concrete. But before you pause the music and close the tab, hear me out. The main idea is to build activity around the wiki, be it social, or technical.
The chat was a selling point of the wiki for quite some time. Everyone was social and interactive. Many came to the wiki for the chat itself. Now none of the regulars are on chat, and there is a lack of activity. The simplest way to fix this is to get back on chat and just talk about things. Move certain interactions from Skype back to SNN. The chat was seemingly the easiest part of the wiki to keep going strong, I should hope it won't be too hard to restore.
Blogs have really stopped being as active as well, with the most popular blogs column usually containing blogs with 1 or less comments. I can't think of any real solution other than make and comment on more blogs. I have a crossover sprite comic series in the works, like some of the ones we used to have.
Editing, and finding editors, has always been a problem here, however, with more people leaving, this issue has become worse and worse. The solution remains the same. We must get more involved in editing. Like BlueSpeeder said, all the names of editors are bold now. I, personally, am going to try and pick up on source code and experience more Sonic media in order to try and edit more.
Wikiwide events have been mostly terminated. Question of the Month and tournaments have been stopped, the primary reasons being the users involved in their creation and operation find them too much work to do on their own. Again, the answer is participation, these events tie us together, and it would be a shame to see them go.
Now I know that this is a heck of a lot easier theorized than done, (actually getting us to do this will be a lot harder than it was to type "participate") and it's impossible to do this on my own, but I want us to try. Some have said that pumping effort into a dead wiki about a dead franchise, well, it's no use. Maybe I'm overzealous and blind and will fail and just end up a lonesome editor on a ghost town wiki. Then, I will give in and retire this account like many before me. And until then, I will fight, and I hope you join me.
TL;DR Scroll up and read it all. It's important, man.
