Hey there, users of Sonic News Network! I've been thinking lately of ways to get this community of ours more involved and active. And while the recent addition of badges has helped, I want to go beyond editing to get us active! Therefore, I'm gonna ask you, yes you, to tell us and show off your Sonic the Hedgehog collection! For this specific thread, show off your video game collection of Sonic games! And since I'm bringing this topic up, I'll share what I have as my Sonic game collection!
The games, though not my first exposure to Sonic, definitely impacted me in a greater way and is currently my favorite video game series. Here's a list of the Sonic games I've acquired over the years:
- Sonic Heroes (PS2) - My first Sonic game, I actually got this from Wal-Mart's layaway way back in 2006. Though not my favorite Sonic game and definitely has some scratches from my younger self being careless, Heroes is among one of my favorite Sonic games, probably within the top five for sure. Though I'm sure a lot of it has to do with nostalgia lol.
- Sonic Mega Collection Plus (PS2) - Although I don't quite remember the year I bought this game (I feel like it was 2007), this game introduced to me to Sonic the Hedgehog comics and actually inspired me to want to draw comics. Fun fact: I actually completed the classic Genesis games backwards: first Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, then Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and finally, Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Sonic Unleashed (PS2) - I got this game back in Christmas 2008. Though a plot-heavy game, which confused me at first, I eventually completed the game within three months and since then has become my favorite Sonic game. There's so much I can talk about this game, but I'm keeping it short.
- Sonic Rush (DS) - One of the first DS games I got, I instantly fell in love with this game. Got this back in 2009, right before I moved from my old city to the town where I eventually graduated school, but Sonic Rush still reminds me to keep on grooving, even during the worst of times.
- Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii) - The first game I had for the Wii, it was actually given to me on my birthday in 2010. I wanted a Wii and this game specifically because I had friends that owned this game and I helped them finish it for them. It doesn't hold up as good I remember it to be, gameplay-wise, but I still think it has some of the best story elements in the series.
- Sonic Colors (Wii, DS) - For a long time, Sonic Colors was my favorite Sonic game. I got the Wii version on the Christmas of the same year my grandfather died, but the game taught me to keep moving on. I absolutely love the concept of the Wisps and I really enjoyed all of the levels. Though Unleashed is my favorite Sonic game nowadays, this game holds a special place in my heart for being there for me when I was going through tough times. I also got the DS version in 2014, but I'm not motivated enough to finish it, sadly.
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii) - Got this shortly after Sonic Colors (or so I recall), it's a fun game that I spent plenty of hours on. Not much else to add.
- Sonic Generations (3DS) - The first 3DS game I bought, this game was the reason I bought the system in the first place. I got it shortly after the Christmas of 2011. Though not as good as I remember it or what it could have been, Generations is a fun little time killer (heheheh, time killer).
- Sonic and the Black Knight (Wii) - I don't quite remember buying this game specifically, though it was during the time I was into the Harry Potter franchise, so roughly 2010-2012. Regardless, it has some of my favorite characterization of Sonic in the series, its lore really intrigues me, and I love some of the tracks from the game (Misty Lake and Fight the Knight (the instrumental mix) are among my favorite tracks).
- Shadow the Hedgehog (PS2, 2012?) - Never actually bought a copy, my friend's gave it to me. Needless to say, I beat the game (and those damn ten alternate endings too). Not really fond of it, it kinda messes the ending of Shadow's character arc and makes things even more confusing, but hey it's in the past.
- Sonic Classic Collection (DS, 2012?) - Only bought this game because I thought I could listen to the music from stages with its sound test menus. They removed the sound test menus from the game, therefore I haven't touched it since.
- Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (3DS, 2013) - Bought this game on launch day, got that limited edition Metal Sonic character with it. 'Nuff said!
- Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (Wii) - I originally played and completed the PS2 version of this game, but alas, that copy of the game has been lost over time. I got a replacement for the Wii and though it's not my favorite racing game, I appreciate the amount of attention of lore it gives (though it does make the Babylon Rogues a very weird set of characters).
- Sonic Lost World (3DS, 2013) - This game came out when three big things were happening at once: my baby sister was born right before this game was released, when the Sonic comics transitioned through a reboot (at this point I was keeping up with the comics, more on that later ;) ) and when I was having issues on this very site, actually! Regardless, though it's a guilty pleasure of mine, I admit that it does have a lot of problems, namely being so experimental and literally its lack of explanation of everything. I like the Deadly Six though. And I do plan on buying the Wii U version, though it's not a big priority.
- Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (DS) - Bought it used at a GameStop in 2014. Never finished the game, was very dull and hard to play. Sad too: apparently it's pretty good.
Aaaaaaaaaaand that's all, folks! How about y'all? How big is your Sonic game collection? Comment down below!
