Blue Block[2][3] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Blue Wisp and companion of Whisper the Wolf. Blue Block was formerly the companion of the team's late infiltrator, Mimic the Octopus.
Appearance[]
A Blue Wisp, Blue Block has a cube-shaped body along three yellow eyes that are aligned horizontally. It also has three short, rectangular triangle-shaped tentacles stemming from the bottom of its body.
History[]
Past[]
At some point in the past, the Blue Block, along with their other fellow Wisps, and their planet came under the threat of Dr. Eggman. Fortunately, they were saved by Sonic the Hedgehog. Afterward, Blue Block and other fellow Wisps settled down on Earth where they would help out the residents of Earth whenever they could.[4]
At some point after the Wisps settled on Earth, a group of Wisps became companions for the Diamond Cutters, including a Blue Block who was the companion of Mimic and helped power his Cube Wispon during several missions. On one final mission, Mimic betrayed the team and led them into a trap by Dr. Eggman. Mimic's Blue Wisp immediately abandoned him after it had witnessed his betrayal. Whisper the Wolf, a member who was not killed due to Mimic's trap, later went to rescue the Wisps from inside the Eggman base and then went back to the Diamond Cutters' base to retrieve the Variable Wispon, a device that would allow her to utilize the power of all of the team's Wisps. This Blue Wisp would help out Whisper by powering her Variable Wispon under various circumstances.[5][6]
The Fate of Dr. Eggman[]
During a trip to one of Dr. Eggman's bases, Whisper and her team of Wisps (the Blue Wisp included) encountered Sonic and Silver. Despite Whisper's initial mistrust, once her Blue Wisp and other Wisps openly greeted Sonic, Whisper chose to team up with the duo. When the newly-formed trio then took on a horde of Badniks, Whisper's Blue Wisp came to Whisper's defense when she was at the mercy of the robots. Fortunately, Sonic and Silver destroyed the Badniks before they could harm them.[6]
Battle For Angel Island[]
When Whisper joined the Resistance on a mission to liberate Angel Island from the Eggman Empire, her Blue Wisp and other Wisps came along with her. After accomplishing their mission, Whisper's Blue Wisp celebrated their victory with Whisper.[7][8][9]
Bonds of Friendship[]
After Whisper and Tangle got Jewel the Beetle and the stolen goods from the Mineral Museum back from the Babylon Rogues, Whisper's Blue Wisp would help clean up the museum and return all the stolen stones.[10]
Tangle & Whisper[]
The Blue Wisp begs Whisper for Tangle to join them, from Sonic the Hedgehog: Tangle & Whisper #1.
Another day at the Mineral Museum, while Whisper explained who Mimic was to Tangle and Jewel, Whisper's Blue Wisp rested in an armchair. It later worryingly saw Whisper's Pink, Cyan and Green Wisps nearly drop some minerals. The Wisps soon gathered around Tangle to look at pictures of Mimic impersonating Sonic. When Tangle decided to help Whisper catch him, the Wisps supported the lemur, though the Blue Wisp seemed more worried due to his past with Mimic. After Whisper initially refused, the Wisps surrounded Tangle, eager for her to join them on the mission, while the Blue Wisp huddled up to Whisper and gave her a pleading look. Following this, Whisper agreed to let Tangle accompany her.[5][11]
Later, after Tangle and Whisper encountered Mimic, the Blue Wisp listened to Whisper as she told Tangle of her past. The Wisps soon convinced Whisper to allow Tangle to see what Mimic did to the team. Later, the Blue Wisp helped create a message to give to Mimic so that he would easily find and challenge them again. At the former Diamond Cutters' base, Whisper fought Mimic using the Variable Wispon's Cube Mode. However, when Mimic reminded the Blue Wisp how much its kind disliked violence, it exited the Wispon out of shame, wishing not to fight its former partner. Soon, Tangle managed to coil Mimic with her tail, which left the Blue Wisp to only stare at Mimic with disappointment. Whisper hugged the upset Blue Wisp, telling it that it was not its fault. After this, the Blue Wisp joined the girls in going to Tails' workshop to have him imprison the Mimic. Following Whisper and Tangle's departure, the Blue Wisp played with its partner and gave her a wink.[5][12]
The Last Minute[]
In Spiral Hill Village, Whisper became hysterical upon learning from Sonic that Tangle got infected by the Metal Virus. Her Blue Wisp helped Amy and other Wisps drag the wolf back to the Rescue Shuttle when she tried to run back into the village. In the shuttle, the Wisps tried to comfort Whisper as she cried into Cream's lap.[13]
All or Nothing[]
The Blue Wisp accompanied Whisper and Silver to Orchardville. It and the other Wisps (aside from the Cyan Wisp) held up prisms for Whisper to fire her laser at so that it could bounce off them and hit Zor. After collecting Zor's Chaos Emerald, Silver, Whisper and the Wisps returned to Angel Island. After Super Sonic and Super Silver reversed the effects of the Metal Virus on the world, the Zombots were cured. This included Tangle, who was soon happily swarmed by Whisper, Blue Block and the other Wisps.[14][15]
Zeti Hunt![]
While Blue Block accompanied Whisper to Restoration HQ, it would learn that Belle had been kidnapped by Dr. Starline.[16]
Trial by Fire[]
It was later with some reluctance that Blue Block joined Whisper when she departed from Restoration HQ in order to keep her friends out of harms way after learning that Mimic was free. Although Tangle caught them departing, she was unable to convince the Blue Wisp and its friends to stay.[17]
Another Grand Adventure for Jet the Hawk[]
Blue Block was with the wolf playing cards with the other Wisps when Jet tried to get his calzone back from her.[18]
Overpowered[]
During her fight with Surge, Whisper brought Blue Block and used it against her. During the fight, Surge forcibly absorbed the Blue Wisp via the Dynamo Cage and used it against Whisper.[19] Surge would use the Blue Wisp to defend herself and fight against Sonic.[20] During a fight with Surge, Sonic, Tails, and Metal Sonic, the Dynamo Cage would break, freeing the Blue Wisp.[21] The Wisp would comfort Sonic and follow him back to Restoration HQ, where it reunited with Whisper.[22]
Urban Warfare[]
Blue Block accompanied her during the Diamond Cutters' attack on Eggperial City. It also joined her in the picnic that followed the destruction of the city.[23]
Misadventures and Endless Summer[]
Blue Block was with her during her stay with the Diamond Cutters at Restoration HQ.[24] The Blue Wisp went with her during a beach day with Tangle, Jewel, and Sonic.[25]
Personality[]
Blue Block, being a Wisp, is helpful, friendly and peaceful in its nature. It enjoys spending its time with others, especially loved ones. Blue Block, like the other Wisps, is not fond of fighting, but it is still a brave and good-hearted soul who will try to protect its friends at all costs. It becomes disgusted at unethical acts.
Blue Block became very disappointed in and upset with his former partner, Mimic, after he betrayed the Diamond Cutters to their deaths and has aided Whisper ever since. Despite the Wisp's apparent disgust at his former partner's actions, it still held some sense of sympathy for him, as it stopped Whisper's attack against him when he reached out to it.
