Archie Comics[]

Blaze the Cat, from Sonic Universe #1.
In the the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin offs published by Archie Comics, Blaze is the guardian of the Sol Emeralds, much like she is in the games.
In Blaze's first appearance, Sonic finds her in captivity after she was captured by a group of SWATbots outside of Knothole. At first hostile to the "Blue One", Blaze eventually realized Sonic meant her no harm after their brief battle ended and he offered his friendship. Blaze vanished soon after, promising to haunt Sonic's dreams as he'd haunted hers. She later assisted Sonic, Tails and Marine in battling Captain Whisker, Johnny and Dr. Eggman Nega to retrieve a Chaos Emerald. In her next encounter with someone from Mobius Prime, she worked with Shadow and Marine to defeat Metal Sonic.
Eventually, arriving in Mobius herself, she sought out a Sol Emerald from getting into the possession of anyone else, with assistance from Cream the Rabbit, Cheese, and Amy Rose. It turned out that three other groups had detected the emerald as well, which included Team Dark, Team Rogues, and Team Hooligan. With the help from Team Dark in a former four-way battle, Blaze recovered her Sol Emerald and peace was restored to her dimension.
In Worlds Collide, Blaze was among Sonic's allies, who were captured and turned into the Roboticized Masters. As Blaze Woman, she was ordered by Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily to retrieve a Chaos Emerald with Silver Man and eventually to fight Sonic and Mega Man's allies. She was eventually brought back to normal and joined the final battle against the evil doctors.
Following the Super Genesis Wave, Blaze became virtually identical to her game counterpart.

DC X Sonic the Hedgehog[]
In DC X Sonic the Hedgehog #4, Blaze is protecting a Chaos Emerald in the Water Palace from Darkseid's forces, consisting of Female Furies Stompa and Mad Harriet and some Parademons with them, until she is aided by Wonder Woman, with whom she exchanges friendly benders before setting to continue fighting off the invasion. Blaze also entrusts Diana with the Chaos Emerald, which she knows the Justice League plans to use to banish Darkseid's forces and return Sonic and his friend's home.

Trivia[]
- In Blaze's debut game, Sonic Rush, she is not actually revealed to be a princess until the very end of Extra Story, where she finally refers to her duties as a princess. She was then referred to as a queen on the official Sega of America Sonic mini site, Sonic Central,[8] and the Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) game website.[9] In Japanese, her title is Kojo (皇女?), which translates as "imperial princess".
- To this day, Blaze's presence in Silver the Hedgehog's future in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) has yet to be explained. In the game, she appears as Silver's companion in the dark future of Earth, starkly different from her role as a guardian from another dimension in Sonic Rush. Multiple sources (the Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) website,[9] the game's Japanese manual,[10] and the game's leaked script)[11][12] confirm that she is indeed the guardian of the Sol Emeralds from another world, but do not explain why she is with Silver. At Sonic Boom 2012, Takashi Iizuka reiterated that Blaze is a native of another dimension and not the future. He also stated that she and Silver did not recognize each other in Sonic Colors because at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), everyone "got amnesia," though he did not explain why Blaze ever met him in the first place.[13] Writer Ian Flynn has stated that there is an official explanation from Sonic Team, but he is not allowed to reveal it yet.[14][15] He also said that because the pair doesn't remember their previous time together, Blaze and Silver have functionally never met until Sonic Colors on Nintendo DS.[16]
- Shiro Maekawa has said that even though it was never officially stated, he wanted to add a sense of connection between Sonic Rush and Sonic the Hedgehog regarding Blaze's presence.[17]
- A common misconception is that Blaze died after sealing Iblis away at the end of Silver Episode. In reality, she disappeared to another dimension.[18]
- Prior to the release of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), an internal Sega document was leaked which contained the entire game script and extended profiles for the major characters. Blaze's profile has some notable differences from her actual depiction, including that she wears a cape to hide her flames and that she is bothered by her under-endowed chest.[11][12]
- According to Sonic Channel, when asked about her weight, Blaze would respond "L-Like I'd tell you that."[2] unlike the other female characters, which simply says "Secret".
- Like Sonic's specialty in breakdancing, Blaze seems to dance ballet. Many of her moves, such as her Axel Jump, resemble a pirouette, and she spins on the tips of her toes before striking several victory poses.
- As of Sonic Runners, Blaze is the first female Power Type character in the series.
- Blaze is the first female character in any portrayals of the Sonic the Hedgehog series to be given a transformation.
- In the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed, the loading screen for Empire City's Skyscraper Scamper stage features a sign that reads "Blaze Rd."
- If Blaze is tapped on the bottom screen with the stylus during gameplay in Sonic Rush, she jumps like a frightened cat, then she turns at the player angrily and stomps on the ground, before turning her back and tapping her foot. When tapped on the touch screen in Sonic Rush Adventure, Blaze hovers in the air.
- In Sonic Rush Adventure, Blaze might know more than one language other than English, as she was able to read a book filled with ancient text found in Sky Babylon.
- According to Ian Flynn, Iblis is still bound to Blaze's soul.
- According to Ian Flynn, Blaze is not Sonic or Knuckles' dimensional counterpart.
- Blaze's fear of heights is rather ironic, as real-life cats generally prefer to stay on high-up places and almost always safely land on their feet.
- Blaze was planned to appear in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing as a playable racer alongside Rouge, Vector, Espio and Silver, but was scrapped from the final product.[19]
- Blaze's motto is 'My power is to protect the smiles of my people', a phrase that originated from Cover stories (2021) from Sonic Channel.[20][21] This motto later resurfaced on the Sonic 2024 Calendar where Blaze and this motto feature alongside Silver, likely due to a similar motto appearing in his own cover story.[22]

A character who carries the role of Sonic and Knuckles combined in the other world. Usually she is calm, cool and collected, but it seems she's suppressing her hidden feelings with reasons. Burning with anger, she is quite terrifying when she loses her self-control. A hot-cold personality type. Terribly shy, she is someone who will end up creating walls between her and the people first and foremost (on the other hand, if you cross the walls, her sense of friendship will increase more than it is necessary). Usually, she wears a cape. Due to her trauma of being bullied when she was a child for her ability to manipulate flames, when she grew up, she made a point to not use them excessively, hence why she wears it. However, once something happens, she throws off her cape and shows a surprisingly active side of her. She is hiding a takarazuka-like costume under that cape! She is actually conscious of her lack of a chest... (she will flare up in rage if this is touched upon). 14 years old."

Are they from an alternate dimension, or the future? Not to mention, in Sonic Rush, Sonic Rivals, and Sonic 2006, they all know each other, but in Sonic Colors, they've never met?" Takashi Iizuka (translated by the panel's translator): "So, everyone probably already knows this... but Silver and Eggman Nega are from the future, and Blaze is from an alternate dimension. That's the official story. But in 2006, basically what happened was everyone kind of had like, amnesia. That's how that kind of played out."
