The Blaster is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a mass-produced, beetle-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

Blasters appear to be based on Hercules beetles. With a bulky light brown and gray armor, Blasters possess a pair of tracked wheels underneath their body. They also have a long and straight gray cannon on their forehead as a horn.

History

Past

At some point in the past, a Blaster tank was sent by Dr. Eggman to fight the Diamond Cutters after they attacked one of his bases. However, the tank was shot down by Whisper the Wolf before it could do anything.[1] Some time later, after Sonic thwarted Eggman in their last encounter, the doctor disappeared while his Blasters and the rest of his Badnik army remained. Without a leader however, the Blasters were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[2] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[3] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based[2]).

Fallout

Eventually, the Blasters came under the control of Neo Metal Sonic, who made them and their fellow Badniks more cohesive.[2][4]

Personality

Basically, the Blasters are mindless and silent drones programmed to follow their leader's every command. As such, when left without a leader to follow, they become directionless and only able to cause harm by accident. Under a guiding force however, they are cold and merciless machines who carry out their commands without question.[2]

Powers and abilities

Blasters are equipped with a cannon-like horn that can load and fire different projectiles.[1]

Variants

Tank variant

The tank variant of the Blaster is essentially a giant version of the basic Blaster, being several times larger than the average Egg Pawn.[1]
