Black Oaks are muscular versions of the Black Warriors. They have nasty dark green skin, with red color starts from the humerus to the end of their hands, and from their ankles to their feet. They also have sharp claws on both their hands and feet.
Black Oaks are incredibly tough opponents, taking about twelve Homing Attacks to destroy just one of them. In gameplay, they will occasionally drop into the player's path through Warp Hole-like points or Black Arms Gunships.
The Black Oaks are usually equipped with one of several types of weapons to use against the player, such as long-ranged firearms to attack the player from far away, or short-ranged swords which they use swiftly but also leave them open to attacks. Their exclusive Dark Hammers also let them block attacks. Upon defeating an armed Black Oak, the player can pick up their weapon and use it themselves. The weapons used by the Black Oaks include:
Black Oaks are mindless beasts that do what Black Doom says without hesitation, acting as no more than extension of his will. They will push themselves into any kind of battle, even at the risk of their own lives.
Powers and abilities
According to Doom's Eye, the Black Oaks are "heralded for their pure strength", being capable of breaking and swatting away cars with ease, and have high endurance and durability to match. They are also proficient at using a variety of weapons.
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Black Oaks have the same background as their game counterparts. A large number of them under Black Death's control returned for another invasion of Sonic's World, but perished in the resulting battles.
The Black Oak is the only known enemy that can resist even the Shadow Rifle without taking damage. However, this is usually seen in the club-wielding variety, which can still be killed by Refractor shots bouncing off the terrain or other Black Arms soldiers.
