The Black Material is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of Material which is used for construction.

Description

In Sonic Rush Adventure, Black Materials are orbs of a mysterious black substance, similar in appearance to cannonballs. In Sonic Lost World, they are black and purple lumps shaped like the universal horse shoes, but with the inner space filled up by the same matter. Despite the substance's apparent consistency, it is very versatile in modifying a number of devices.

In gameplay, the Black Materials Materials are used in conjunction with other Materials to upgrade variojs machines such as vessels or RC Vehicles.

In Sonic Rush Adventure, the player can earn Black Materials by clearing the following stages' Acts and/or bosses:

Sonic Lost World

In the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Lost World, the player can earn Black Materials by clearing Sky Road's Zones. The Rank the player gets from clearing the Zones determines the amount of Black Material earned:

As an alternative to collecting Black Materials, the player can combine other Materials in Tails' Lab to create Black Materials. To create one Black Material, the player needs at least three Iron Materials.
