Black Bot the Pirate, originally Blackbeard the Pirate, is a character that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. He was a buccaneer from the Mobian Age of Sail who was transformed into a robot by Dr. Robotnik's Robot-Transmogrifier Ray.
Appearance[]
As Blackbeard, he was a heavyset human with a wooden peg-leg, long black hair tied in a ponytail, a black, chinstrap beard.
As Black Bot, his beard disappears, his pegleg became metal, his mouth resembling a beartrap and his eyes became yellow Light Bulbs.

Blackbeard before he became a robot.
Blackbeard possessed a map showing the location of the Chaos Emerald of Invisibility. In an attempt to find the Emerald, Dr. Robotnik, Scratch and Grounder time-traveled into the past and landed on Blackbeard's ship. The fierce pirate easily defeated Scratch and Grounder in combat (slicing Grounder to ribbons with his sword, then beating Scratch with nunchaku). However, Robotnik turned him into a robot slave with his robot-transmogrifier ray, re-naming him Black Bot the Pirate.
When Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower arrived to stop Robotnik, Black Bot fought Sonic atop the ship's mast. Although Sonic managed to knock Black Bot to the deck, the robot responded by capturing Tails and forcing him to walk the plank, leading Sonic to leap into the water to save him.
Black Bot then accompanied Robotnik on the search for the Chaos Emerald, and fought Sonic again. However, when Sonic managed to obtain the Emerald and become invisible, he used his razor-sharp spinning to slice Black Bot to ribbons.[1]
Personality[]
From what is seen of Blackbeard before he was Roboticized, he appeared to be a stereotypical pirate who searched for buried treasure and spoke in nautical slang.
After becoming Black Bot, he instantly acknowledged Robotnik as his captain and became his loyal servant. Despite this, Black Bot retained his pirate-themed mannerisms and knowledge.
Trivia[]
- Blackbeard, also known as Edward Teach, was a real pirate in the early 18th century. He was one of the most notorious and feared pirates of his day.
- The name "Black Bot" may also be a reference to Batholomew Roberts, a highly successful pirate who has been referred to as "Black Bart."
- Blackbot re-appeared in the Sonic Sez segment of "Black Bot the Pirate," still a robot, wherein he explains to Tails that blades are not toys to play with.
