Bingo[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of mini-game where the player can collect numbers to earn rewards.

Description[]

Bingo is a game that typically uses nine numbers (from 1 to 9). If the player manages to collect three of these numbers found within a playable level so they align in a row either horizontally, vertically or diagonally on the Bingo grids that are depicted prominently within the level, they will get a "bingo", and will usually be rewarded with Rings. After this, the grids that showcase the bingo will restart.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Pinball Party[]

Bingo first appeared as a part of the Bingo minigame in Sonic Pinball Party. Here, the player has to sling a pinball into the two targets in the top corners on the chosen pinball board to light up random squares on the bingo grid.

Sonic Heroes[]

You get 20 Rings for each Bingo. Perfect Bingo adds 40 Rings. That means the whole card is worth a total of 200 Rings.

In Sonic Heroes, Bingo is playable in BINGO Highway. Here, the numbers appear as multicolored, round-shaped number gates spread across the pinball table-like areas. To activate the number, the leader character must pass through it. Depending on how the numbers on the display table align, the player's reward will vary; a single Bingo is worth 20 Rings. If the player manages to pass through all nine numbers, the resulting Bingo adds an additional 40 Rings to its total. This means a Bingo board can award up to 200 Rings. After this though, the Bingo board does not reset unless the player restarts the stage, such as from losing a life. Each Bingo display table has its numbers' arrangement always randomized upon each subsequent playthrough of the stage (including restarts or respawns due to losing a life).

Sonic Rivals 2[]

In Sonic Rivals 2, Bingo appears in Neon Palace Zone Act 3. This time around, the Bingo numbers are activated by touching blocks that have the corresponding number on them. Bingo is also used when fighting the Egg Dealer. Getting a Bingo will cause the Egg Dealer to descend after being hit by a beam of lightning, allowing the player to attack it. Unlike in Sonic Heroes, the Bingo display table's arrangement in both Acts is always fixed.

Sonic Lost World[]

In the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Lost World, Sky Road Zone 1 features Bingo grids as the main gimmick. Bingo grids with 25 flipping cards appear above corridor sections which the player can only reach using Springs, Flippers or other local gimmicks. These sections have large tiles blocking the pathways out of there which will only disappear after the player has flipped a certain amount of cards on their respective Bingo grids using the aforementioned gimmicks.

The player receives a Bingo every time after flipping all the cards in a row. When this happens, the player also gets ten extra Rings. The player can also use Cyan Laser to reach these cards faster.
