Billy Hatcher is the main protagonist of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. A boy from the human world, Billy and his friends were transported to Morning Land by Menie-Funie after saving a helpless chick from an attack by crows. With the courage bestowed upon him by the six Chicken Elders and Menie-Funie, Billy donned the Legendary Chicken Suit and embarked on a grand adventure to save Morning Land from the villainous Dark Raven and the darkness that would spread to the human world. He has appeared in several crossover games with Sonic the Hedgehog.
Billy's first outing on the Nintendo GameCube included cameos from Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Chao. Other Sega character also make cameos such as NiGHTS, Amigo, Kapu Kapu, and Rappy. These Sega stars have to be hatched from an egg with the Sonic Team logo on it. Additional Sega goodies were available in this game such as one of a handful of minigames that supports linking between the GameCube and Game Boy Advance handheld system. Using the Nintendo GameCubeGame Boy Advance Cable, players can load games such as Puyo Pop, ChuChu Rocket!, and Nights: Time Attack on their Game Boy Advance systems after certain objectives are completed within the game.
Egg Rodeo: As The Billy Hatcher theme song plays, Billy hops onto a giant egg like a circus ball and runs on it to squashes anyone in its path.
Shadow the Hedgehog
In Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow can unlock a Billy Hatcher-themed weapon. The weapon is a vacuum-type bazooka that can suck up enemies, items and crates. The vacuum looks like a chicken and the vacuum bag looks like an egg from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. When the vacuum gets full, Shadow receives extra lives for all the things he sucked up.
In the Sega Carnival course in Sonic Riders, there is a sequence where the player rides in a giant egg directly from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. Billy himself, can be spotted on the top floor of the ship. He will be seen running around in a circle, pushing an egg inside of the fenced in area.
Billy's blond hair tuft resembles a chicken's beak.
He is one of the few characters that have appeared in Sega Superstars that did not appear in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Although his three friends make cameo appearances, Billy himself is completely absent. This seems to suggest he was intended to be playable and cut late in development, or planned for downloadable content which did not happen.
