Big Bean[1] is a minor character that appears in both the 16-bit and 8-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. It is a large, green Bean exclusive to the games' Exercise Mode.
Overview[]
Big Bean is about twice the size of regular Beans. During Exercise Mode, when the player is about to lose despite having performed well in gameplay, the Big Bean will drop down from above the player's board and fall straight to the bottom of it, erasing the two columns of Beans that are in its way. This creates a deep, empty gap on the board.
Even though the Big Bean falls down automatically at random positions above the board, the player should utilize it carefully, most likely because Big Bean can cause any same-colored Bean chains to disappear in the process.
Trivia[]
- Big Bean is an export of the character Big Puyo from the Puyo Puyo games, who is larger variation of a regular Puyo. However, the big Puyo does not appear in the 16-bit versions of Puyo Puyo that Mean Bean Machine derived from; instead, it only appeared in the original MSX2 and Famicom Disk System versions.
