Beat[1] (ビート Bīto?) is an enemy that appears in Sonic Adventure. It is a mass-produced, mite-based Badnik model, radio-controlled enemy created by Dr. Eggman.[2]

Appearance

Beats closely resemble mite arthropods with pink metallic shells and gray underbellies. They have a pair of sharp needles on their bodies and crawl around with black and yellow-striped engine attachments on each side of them.

Sonic Adventure

FileSa beat

Sonic surrounded by Beats in Final Egg.

In Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, Beats can be only encountered in Sonic's portion of the Final Egg. They are only found in wide halls, where they spawn from production pipes.

When the player enters such halls, all local Beats will crawl slowly towards Sonic, disable themselves, and then self-destruct on impact. However, the player can defeat them without causing them to explode by using the Spin Jump, Homing Attack or Light Speed Attack. Alternatively, the player can ignore them to proceed with the Action Stage, as defeating all the Beats in one place takes a long time. Eventually, these robots will stop spawning after enough are defeated.

Sonic Rivals 2

In Sonic Rivals 2, a Beat makes a cameo as one of collectible cards. The player receives this card after getting the high score for defeating the Egg Bull in Frontier Canyon Zone.

Powers and features

The Beats have the ability to manually detonate themselves, creating a wide explosion range. However, they crawl slowly.
