Its angler light creates an energy charge.

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Barrier Angler[1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, anglerfish-based Badnik serving Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega.

Appearance[]

The Barrier Anglers' design are derived from the typcial anglerfish. They possess red bodies with gray fins, gray jaws, sharp white teeth, and a luminescent fin ray on their forehead.

Overview[]

In Sonic Rush Adventure, the Barrier Anglers appear as enemies. They are encountered in the underwater sections of Coral Cave and Hidden Island 11.

In gameplay, Barrier Anglers swim around harmlessly. When the playable character approaches them however, they will charge up their fin ray's bulb for a short while, thereby creating a large sphere of energy around it. This attack is purely defensive, as it cannot be fired. However, it will damage the playable character if they make contact with this energy sphere. Regardless, the Barrier Anglers can be taken out easily if the player attacks them with any offensive maneuver while their defenses are down.

Powers and abilities[]

Thanks to their design, the Barrier Anglers are excellent swimmers. They are also able to generate harmful energy balls around their fin rays, although they cannot fire them at foes.
