The Banana is a fruit that has appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed. Over the games, it has had two different functions, one as a weapon and the other as a consumable.

A banana
Bananas (バナナ Banana?) are items that only appear in Competition mode of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. Bananas begin inside of a bubble, that float and rotate around the competition Zones, along with the Self-Propelled Bomb. When the player picks up a Banana from the air, it falls down to the ground until a player runs over it, which causes the character to slip and slow down for few seconds.
The player has to memorize the location of the Banana, where it fell after picking it up in the air. However, it might become challenging during the fast moving race and sometimes the banana would be hard to recognize on the ground on certain courses.

The fruit itself was also available in Sonic Unleashed, where it can be purchased for forty Rings at Flying Fish Beach Shop located in Adabat. It is a consumable. It can be given to Chip to contribute to the BFF's or to Sonic for the Hungry Hungry Hedgehog Achievements/Trophies. When consumed by Sonic, the Banana will give him ten Exp.
