The Balloon[1] (バルン[2] Barun?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, octopus-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.
Appearance[]
The Balloons resemble an octopus with the ability to hover in order to travel. They have a red-colored inflated head, and for appendages, they have several grey tubes hanging from their undercarriage. They also have cartoony eyes as well.
Overview[]
The first and only appearance of the Balloons were in Sonic Advance 2, where they appear as enemies that can be exclusively encountered in Ice Paradise.
In gameplay, the Balloons hover back and forth between two set points. Simultaneously, they fire a laser from their underside every few seconds that can damage the player. However, the lasers are aimed in different directions, making it unpredictable on which direction it will go to. Additionally, some Balloons do not move, and instead fire lasers while stationary. Like most Badniks, they can be easily defeated using any attack and will release an Animal upon destruction.

The Balloons are equipped with laser shooters underneath them that they can shoot in multiple directions.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing, the Balloons were among the many Badniks that attended Orbot and Cubot's Winter Jam reality show.[3]
Trivia[]
- The Takkon from Sonic Advance 3 bears a lot of resemblance to this Badnik, even sharing a similar attack pattern as well.
