The Balance Beam[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a pink beam that Amy Rose can use to traverse the environment.
Description[]
The Balance Beams are thin grey beams of various lengths that are decorated with glowing pulses of pink light and a pink top surface. They are either hanging from the sides of walls or levitating in midair.
Overview[]
In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, the Balance Beams' purpose is to provide ways for Amy to traverse the environments in the game's levels using her specific character abilities. When using a Balance Beam, Amy climbs on top of it and performs Beam Walk. This allows the player to take different paths throughout the levels which are specifically meant for Amy. They usually lead over various chasms, or allow Amy to get to higher sections or secrets. Certain Balance Beams however, must be extracted from walls using either a Button or the Enerbeam.
To use a Balance Beam in gameplay, Amy just has to touch it, either ny landing on it from above or touching it from below. She will then automatically grab hold of the Balance Beam and swing herself onto it. From here, the player can walk both backward and forward on the Balance Beam or jump without a chance of falling off it. Balance Beams do not necessarily provide safe passage however. Some will suddenly collapse while others feature damage-inducing hazards along them, such as spiked pendulums that swing between two beams or carts that roll along them.
