Doctor Ivo Robotnik, "Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad"

Badniks,[1] also known as Robotnik's henchbots,[2] are a group that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. They are Dr. Ivo Robotnik's personal brand of robots, consisting of various diverse designs that the doctor uses as his footsoldiers and lackeys in his mad schemes for the conquest of Mobius and destruction of Sonic.

History[]

The term "Badnik" is a colloquial term used to describe any active robot created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik in the pursuit of total conquest of the planet Mobius. Though Robotnik is known to build many of these Badniks personally, they are just as often produced by way of his various Robo-Matic Machines, being crafted out of everyday items relevant to their purpose. They come in a wide variety of shapes, ranging from people-shaped, tool-shaped, and even vehicle-shaped, often being purpose-built for specific tasks Robotnik sees fit for. While most of them are visibly abnormal and mechanical, Robotnik has been known to occasionally build Badniks made to look and act like regular Mobians, such as Breezie, Mayor Fumfer, and Guido, typically for the sake of undercover operations.

Regardless of how powerful or skilled many of Robotnik's Badniks are, a recurring flaw in their design is that they're usually not very intelligent, and are frequently easily outsmarted by Sonic the Hedgehog. Even Scratch and Grounder, whom Robotnik specifically designed to be brilliant, ended up as complete morons. The rare exceptions to this are Robotnik's Badniks made to resemble living people, who, being built specifically for spying and deceiving rather than combat, are typically much smarter than the average Badnik.

Trivia[]

  • The Badniks are based on the robot line of the same name that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. However, only a few of them appear among these robots.
  • A recurring motif in many of Robotnik's Badniks is the installation of a "Robocom phone" in their torsos, a wireless phone line that links directly back to Robotnik himself. Grounder, Breezie, Mayor Fumfer, and Guido all showcased having a Robocom phone built into them.
