"Back 2 Back" is a music track from Sonic Rush, which plays during the second zone, Water Palace. As with the other stage tracks in Sonic Rush, there are two versions of "Back 2 Back", the "Sonic Mix" played in Sonic's acts and the "Blazy Mix" played in Blaze's acts. This song has been recycled multiple times in the Sonic franchise, first as an unlockable song for Casino Park in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

Water Palace returns in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations, and thus, so does "Back 2 Back". The Classic "remix" is infamously a straight rip of the Digital Remakin' version from Rush's soundtrack, Original Groove Rush, whilst the Modern remix is an electronic rock mix arranged by Cash Cash.

Trivia[]

  • The main riff highly resembles that of the 1955 song, Louie Louie by Richard Berry, though Hideki Naganuma has confirmed multiple times that this was unintentional.
  • The song samples the acapella version of the 1983 song, Haunted House of Rock by Whodini. Specifically it samples the lyrics "And spinnin' on the turntables back to back is no other than my main man Wolfman Jack."
  • Out of the whole Sonic Rush soundtrack, this song is the only one that is still currently available on Spotify. This could be due to the multitude of samples included in every song on said soundtrack, including an excerpt from Malcom X's infamous Letters from the Grassroots speech. Despite this being the commonly speculated reason among the fandom, it could also be due to Hideki Naganuma, the main composer of the soundtrack, leaving Sega, as he felt it had changed too drastically as a company for him to enjoy continuing his work there. Despite this, this was the only song included in Generations' unlockable music list, long after Naganuma had left. Due to this, in the 2024 remaster present in Sonic X Shadow Generations, it was replaced with Westopolis. Oddly enough, Endless Possibility remains, which could mean that they managed to work things out with Jarret Reddick.
