Plot[]

The episode begins at the very point in the first episode where Sonic is drifting through the Void after accidentally destroying the Paradox Prism. Shadow, thanks to the green Chaos Emerald in his possession, manages to escape the shattering, appearing in the Void. He chases after Sonic toward the New Yoke City Gateway. However, after Sonic flies into the Gateway, Shadow tries to enter it, but is unable to do, so as the portal repels him into a shard, causing him to drop the Chaos Emerald into the black pit below. Shadow makes several more unsuccessful attempts at entering the Gateway, and receives brief visions of Sonic's actions in New Yoke City after every failure. Suddenly, Sonic peels out, partially exiting the Gateway, running around in a sphere of energy, and emerging from the moment he was being tested on by the Chaos Council. Shadow attempts to talk to Sonic, but is soon blown backwards by the ensuring shockwave caused by Sonic's Prism Energy, which also shuts off the power in New Yoke City. The shockwave sends Shadow flying to the outer regions of the Void, where he finds a mysterious yellow Gateway.

Later, Shadow sees Sonic flying out of the New Yoke City Gateway, and into the Boscage Maze Gateway. Shadow stands by the Gateway, and waits until Sonic is visible, before attempting to contact him again. This instead distracts Sonic, who trips and flies out of the Gateway, landing back into the New Yoke City Gateway. Shadow continues trying to contact Sonic, ordering him to keep running. Sonic then dashes out of the Gateway, and into the No Place Gateway. Once Sonic eventually emerges, Shadow takes the opportunity to kick a crystal at him, and confronts the hedgehog.

Sonic's initial reaction is to tell Shadow that he has to get back home. But Shadow informs Sonic that because of him, Green Hill doesn't exist anymore. Shadow then proceeds to attack Sonic, and Sonic is launched through the Void and crashes into a giant shard. He dodges Shadow's attack and jumps from shard to shard to get away from Shadow. While Sonic demands to be left alone in an annoyed manner, Shadow kicks Sonic and Sonic bounces off a few rocks as Shadow flies after him with his Air Shoes. Sonic tells himself to try and get back to New Yoke City and find Nine, and hopes that Nine will fly through with his Shatter Drive-powered Shattercraft and pick up Sonic, unaware that Nine was captured by the Chaos Council. Shadow catches up to Sonic. Thinking that the Shadow chasing him is of a different Shatterspace and not the one of his universe, Sonic makes several guesses to where he's from. Shadow catches Sonic from under the rock and throws him into two more rocks before throwing him down on one more. Shadow angrily berates Sonic for him being stuck in the Void, while Sonic, confused that Shadow already knows his name, realizes that Shadow is the one of his original universe. Shadow, still angry with Sonic not listening, tells him again that their original universe does not exist anymore. Sonic hears this time and is horrified at the realization. Shadow explains to Sonic that because he destroyed the Paradox Prism, he destroyed their reality. Because of Sonic, Green Hill and everyone in it is gone. Sonic is devastated by this. Sonic is well aware that he did this and that he is trying to fix it, but it only keeps getting worse. Shadow begrudgingly tells Sonic to follow him, and leads him through the Shatterverse while explaining how he ended up in the Void between the Shatterspaces after he teleported away using the Chaos Emerald. Sonic and Shadow stop by the New Yoke City Gateway to talk about the energy on Sonic's shoes. Sonic learns from Shadow that the Prism Energy pulsing through his body is amplified when Sonic uses his speed at a high level, thinning the veil to the Void. Sonic and Shadow keep traveling and pass by the other Gateways, and Shadow reveals that he tracked Sonic as he was sent into the other Shatterspaces. Sonic spots the black hole at the bottom of the Void, and asks what is down there. Although unsure, Shadow assumes that it's a portal to eternal darkness and death. Sonic asks Shadow why he couldn't follow him into the Gateways, and Shadow responds that he couldn't get into any of the Gateways in the Shatterverse with the exception of the yellow one, which Shadow proceeds to lead Sonic to. Although unsure why the Gateway allowed Shadow in, Shadow assumes the Shatterspace is either incomplete or decaying, but he does know this: it's like a ghost. Sonic and Shadow travel into the yellow Gateway.

Sonic and Shadow enter what appears to be Green Hill in their original universe. Sonic then realizes that it is their original universe, only that it was rendered dull, barren and lifeless. Still, much to Sonic's joy, it is his home, right down to the last detail, including the Loop-De-Loop, Hedgehog's Pass, Tails' Lab and the palm trees. Hearing Tails' voice, Sonic races to the beach and finds Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Rouge, in their original appearances. But Sonic soon discovers that they are ghostly versions of his friends that repeat the same singular phrase over and over and over again. Shadow states that it was just another Shatterspace, made to make them suffer due to the fact that it looked just like their home. Though Sonic is a bit happy that his original universe is still in one piece, he's disappointed that it's now nothing more than a gray, barren ghost land, though Sonic admits that it was cool that his friends repeated their phrases the first couple times. Desperate to get his world and his friends back, Sonic asks Shadow how he can fix this.

Shadow takes Sonic past ghostly versions of Big and Froggy, up the Temple Mountain, and into the cave where the Paradox Prism was found. The sight of this makes Sonic a little nervous, but he gains his nerve and enters the cave. Sonic sees the former resting place of the Prism, but notices all that's left is the fourth and final Shard, which Sonic assumes is a ghost, too. The sight of the ghostly shape of the full Paradox Prism around the Shard makes Sonic think back to where it all began, when he and his friends confronted Dr. Eggman and he attempted to stop him from getting the Prism, only to end up literally shattering everything and everyone he ever cared about. Sonic, guilty and grieving, says that he would do anything to be back home. Fortunately, Shadow tells him that there is a chance they could get their world back. He explains that each Shatterspace is a distorted version of their reality, each one containing a Shard, which means the yellow Shard is real, and Sonic agrees with Shadow on that, since the Regulators on Sonic's sneakers are picking up on the Shard Energy. Shadow tells Sonic that the Ghost Prism, which is the ghostly version of what the Paradox Prism originally was before Sonic destroyed it, shows how the Shards must be placed together. If they bring the Shards from the Shatterspace they're in and connect them with the yellow Shard, then they could restore the Paradox Prism, and in doing so, potentially restore their reality. Sonic agrees with this plan, believing it might work. Sonic suggests bringing Nine for help, since he knows a lot about the Prism Energy, but Shadow rejects that idea, believing that Nine can't be trusted. Sonic insists that Nine can be trusted due to his similarities to Tails, but Shadow tells Sonic that Nine is only Nine and not Tails, and the variants aren't Sonic's real friends. This hurts Sonic a bit, but Sonic believes that Nine is real and that their original universe is the reality he wants, and the Regulators Nine gave to Sonic are real as well. Sonic tells Shadow that he will get the Shards and bring them back, but Shadow tells Sonic that that isn't his plan. Shadow explains to Sonic that because he literally shattered the world, he doesn't trust Sonic to resolved the situation. Shadow then Spin-Dashes Sonic into the cave wall, much to his shock. Shadow believes that since the Regulators are how Sonic is able to get into the Shatterspaces, he intends to take them and use the Regulators to get the Shards himself. Sonic refuses to allow that, since he knows what Shadow can do, and Sonic is insistent that the variants are real. But Shadow attacks him again, and Sonic speeds out of the cave while Shadow tackles him.

They battle throughout Ghost Hill, but Shadow manages to steal the Regulators, amplifying his abilities. Shadow has the two Regulators for his hands, but Sonic steals back the Regulators for his sneakers underwater, by the beach their friends are. Shadow chases Sonic past Big and Froggy, up the Loop-De-Loop and through the air. Sonic tries to fend him off, but Shadow gets the last two Regulators. With all 4 Regulators in his possession, Shadow bids Sonic farewell and runs up the Temple Mountain. Sonic follows him, but without the Regulators, the Prism Energy in Sonic is uncontrolled and uncontained. Sonic tries to catch up to Shadow, but cannot control his speed and slips and slides up the mountain. Shadow jumps off the top of the mountain and teleports back into the Void. In pursuit, Sonic flies into the air as well, but fails to gain enough energy to get back to the Void. However, he remembers Shadow telling him that he amplifies his Prism Energy when he goes fast, so Sonic gains control of his speed and goes fast enough to teleport back into the Void.

He tackles Shadow and smashes him through several rocks as they both rocket through the Void. Sonic attempts to take the Regulators back, but Shadow kicks him off and they land on one of the rocks. Sonic and Shadow continue their fight, but notice the jagged rocks falling towards them, prompting them to race and dodge the falling rocks as they battle further. Sonic catches up to Shadow, but then, the Chaos Council's Mothership suddenly exits the New Yoke City Gateway and enters the Void, ready to begin their conquest of the entire Shatterverse. Shadow pauses his battle with Sonic, and chases after the Mothership. Sonic sees that the Council are heading to the Boscage Maze, and follows after Shadow to help stop them. However, he arrives too late, and the Mothership enters the Gateway, while Shadow tries to follow them, but is still unable to get into the Gateway, even with the Regulators. This attempt repels him and sends him flying into a giant rock. Sonic races to his rescue, while several smaller rocks smash into the bigger rock as Shadow lies unconscious. A final rock smashes the bigger rock to pieces, much to Sonic's horror. Sonic spots Shadow falling toward the black void and speeds after him Sonic grabs Shadow and super-jumps out of the black void and onto a large rock over the Boscage Maze Gateway.

Shadow wakes up, and Sonic, thrilled by what he did, but also exhausted, intends to hold saving Shadow over him forever, and demands his Regulators back. Shadow prepares to give them back, only to find Sonic already took them and put them on again. Shadow thought that the Regulators would get him through the Gateways, since Nine gave Sonic the tech and he was able to get through the Gateways. But since Sonic was able to amplify his Prism Energy and re-enter the Void without the Regulators, Shadow realizes it wasn't the Regulators that got Sonic through the Gateways, but Sonic himself. Sonic believes that it makes him special. Shadow then grudgingly decides that if he and Sonic are going to restore the Paradox Prism and save their world, as well as stop the Chaos Council from conquering the Shatterverse, he and Sonic will need to work together. Sonic is surprised by this, since Shadow has never really asked for Sonic's help before. Sonic admits that he's big enough to admit that he needs Shadow, but Shadow hates to admit that he needs Sonic as much as Sonic needs him. Sonic then jumps off the rock and lands near the Boscage Maze Gateway. Sonic gives Shadow one last look, while Shadow does the same, and then Sonic salutes to him as he jumps into the Gateway, with Shadow wishing him the best of luck.

In the Boscage Maze, Sonic re-enters the world and spots the Chaos Council's Mothership. Worried, but determined, Sonic promises Shadow that he won't let him down, because together, they will fix their world, and save Shatterspace in the Shatterverse. The episode ends with Sonic running across the wooden bridge above the jungle, determined to find the green Shard before the Chaos Council does.

Trivia[]

  • Two days prior its YouTube premiere, the title of the episode was leaked online, along with six other episodes of the second season.[1]
  • The title of the episode is or may be a reference to Domino's Pizza's "Avoid the Noid" campaign which was running from 1986 to 1995, and revived in 2021.
  • The scene when Shadow tosses Sonic during their fight is reused in "The Devil Is in the Tails".
  • Whilst Nine is the only Shatter Variant of Sonic and Shadow's original friends that's mentioned by name, the rest of them are indirectly mentioned.
  • This is the only episode that Big and Froggy appear as ghosts in Ghost Hill.

Errors[]

  • Shadow chasing the drifting Sonic contradicts what happens in both "Shattered" and "It Takes One to No Place", as, in "Shattered", Shadow is not seen attempting to reach Sonic and some of the lines from Amy, Tails and Dr. Eggman aren't heard, and for "It Takes One to No Place", in the flashback, after appearing in the Void, Shadow just looks around.
  • Both scenes of Shadow being blasted to the Ghost Hill Gateway contradict each other.
  • When Shadow enters Ghost Hill with Sonic, in the scene where Sonic is looking around, in the background, the actual entrance to the Paradox Prism's cavern in the Temple Mountain is missing.
