The Custom Hero[1] is a character set to appear in Sonic Forces. The Custom Hero is the third playable character in Sonic Forces, and can be designed and customized by the player. The Custom Hero will be featured in cutscenes in the game and is considered "a crucial element in helping Sonic reclaim the world from Eggman’s domination."[2]

As their name suggests, the Custom Hero is a character who can be customized by the player. The following aspects can be customized:
- species
- upper headgear
- middle headgear
- lower headgear
- gloves
- footwear
- body size
- bodysuit
- skin color.
A multitude of options are given for the player to customize their character in any fashion in order to offer a unique playing experience. The Custom Hero can become one of seven different species: bear, bird, cat, dog, hedgehog, rabbit, and wolf.
Powers and abilities

The Custom Hero comes with a grappling hook, as well as utilizing the abilities of Color Powers from the Wisps with a weapon called the Wispon.
Depending on its species, the Custom Hero can have unique characteristics in gameplay.
- Bears can blow away enemies with a single Homing Attack.[3]
- Birds can fly higher with the use of a Double Jump.[3]
- Cats keep one ring after taking a hit.[3]
- Dogs restart with five rings after the player loses a life.[3]
- Hedgehogs gather rings when they take damage.[3]
- Rabbits receive longer invincibility after taking damage.[3]
- Wolves automatically draw in rings when running near them.[3]
