Asura is one of the largest Guardian models, standing several stories high. It stands on two stout legs with no visible feet, and its main body is very wide at the bottom and comparatively narrow at the top, giving it a vague resemblance to a woman in a dress. Three short protrusions at the top of its body connect to broad curved platforms extending over its body; each platform has a large black spire on top and a long, almost ribbon-like arm on the bottom. Smaller, free-floating platforms fill the space between its "shoulders."
Asura is mainly gray in color, with black on its upper body and the undersides of its limbs, and has red lights in various places (most prominently ringing its spires and running along the undersides of its arms).
Asura's size grants it immense strength; with a simple slam of its hand, it can create wide-spread tremors that shake the land. It can also generate force-fields around it that have different effects: blue ones grant speed boosts to those that pass through them, and red ones repel anyone touching them. It can also generate laser grids with adjustable sizes and movements around its spires, and form harmful red energy balls along its arms and on its platforms for defense.
Asura's armor is tough enough to be functionally impervious to Sonic's attacks, with only the spires on its top being vulnerable to damage. Even then, it is able to continue functioning with only one of its three spires, implying that it has redundant vital systems or that the cumulative damage of losing all three arms overloads its core components.
Battle[]
Asura is a boss that can be fought in the open-zone areas of Kronos Island. Its size makes it very easy to spot as long as the player isn't distracted, allowing them to avoid it unless they need its Portal Gear.
Boss guide[]
To defeat Asura, the player needs to attack the three spikes on the top of the circular platform. Using the Homing Attack, the boss require 33 hits, with 11 blows on each spike. During the battle, the player can use the Cyloop near its legs in order to get a Portal Gear.
Initially, the Guardian will attack using one of its arms, raising it up before smashing it into the ground. The slam can be easily avoided by moving away from the arm's landing site, but it releases blue force-fields around it as more appear on the arm itself; fortunately, the fields give Sonic a speed boost, making it easier for him to scale the limb. When the player reaches the top of the arm, they can attack Asura's spikes; it's recommended to get some hits on all three in order to make subsequent phases quicker.
When enough damage is dealt to one of Asura's spikes, it loses the corresponding arm and causes Sonic to fall back to the ground. The player needs to repeat the process for phase two, made harder by the fact that Asura's slam attack generates red force-fields that will repel Sonic instead of boosting him (the fields on the arm itself remain blue). Additionally, the remaining two spikes will now be surrounded by rings of lasers that periodically rotate, expand and contract; however, they have gaps that Sonic can use to attack the spikes unhindered. Alternatively, Sonic can jump over the rings and hit the spike with a Homing Attack.
When Asura loses another arm, Sonic has to repeat the process one more time. However, the difficulty is significantly increased; Asura's arm slam generates both red and blue force-fields on the ground and on its limb, while energy balls will start to flow around the last spike.
When Asura's last arm is destroyed, a cutscene shows its remaining body exploding before slumping over and disintegrating, leaving a Portal Gear for Sonic to collect.
