Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 81 is the eighty-first issue of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by Archie Comics.

Official solicitation

"City Of Dreams", "All You Need Is A Bit Of Chaos" and "A Rose By Any Other Name"

The mysteries of the Hidden City of The Ancients continue to obsess the heroes: Are the citizens of this pocket environment hostile or friendly? Could they be the answer to Planet Mobius' secret origin? Will Sonic and the others from Knothole Village be ambassadors of peace or will they be forced to mobilize for conflict? Meanwhile, in the Knuckles story: In pursuit of the evil Dr. Robotnik (who stole shards of the Master Emerald), Knuckles follows him deep into the mysterious Cat Country where he finds the Mystic Ruins. Time is running out as the grounded Floating Island is invaded by Cat People. And in the backup solo story, Amy Rose gets used to her new body... and her new powers?

Featured stories

City of Dreams

Sonic, Nate Morgan, Sally, Antoine, Bunnie, Tails and a newly transformed Amy Rose have arrived at the Hidden City of the Ancients. Almost getting arrested, the police chief takes them to the mayor of Station Square. The mayor shows Sally, Antoine, Bunnie and Nate Morgan around the city, Sonic takes off to the hotel to serenade the girls by the pool, Tails heads to fly around in his bi-plane and Amy decides to go shopping.

All you need is a bit of Chaos

Dr. Robotnik uses Chaos shards to revive Chaos, but doesn't have enough. He sends his E-Series robots to search for the Chaos shards. Now that the Floating Island has fallen into the ocean, Knuckles explores the area to find the pieces of the Master Emerald and Julie-Su, Vector, Espio and Mighty have been captured by mysterious cat people.

J. F. Gabrie gets in trouble for "misusing the copier" and yells at Sonic because of this. When Sonic asks why he is shouting at him, Gabrie shows him a photocopied picture of a posterior that looks a little to spiky...

Trivia

  • This issue is based on Sonic Adventure.
  • This issue is featured in Sonic Super Special Magazine #2.
  • Behind Mayor Bullyani on the last page of Story One, there is graffiti on the walls, which one says 'Spaz is God.'
  • Sonic’s pose on the cover bares a resemblance to a piece of artwork from Sonic Adventure.
  • This issue shows the first time Amy's trademark weapon, her Piko Piko hammer appears (oddly, out of nowhere).
  • The name of the third story is a famous line said by Romeo in the balcony scene of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
  • Even though Mayor Bullyani is a human he was accidentally given four fingers, the mistake was never used again.
  • Some of Amy's lines in the third story where taken directly from the opening of her own storyline in the game, Sonic Adventure.
  • Mayor Bullyani shows the Freedom Fighters to the Rapid Transit System, which is the main transport in the game Sonic Adventure between Station Square and the Mystic Ruins.
  • According to writer Ken Penders, "All you need is a bit of Chaos" segment from this issue was originally intended to be published as part of Knuckles the Echidna comic series if it hadn't been cancelled on issue 32.[1]
