Back To Basics

Sonic and Tails pack in their quest to find Ixis Naugus. Before they leave, Rotor presents a device from Robotnik's old laboratory that supposedly lets the user look into the future. Sonic uses it and it projects a vision of Robotropolis. Sonic realizes that this was a glimpse of the past.

The device recounts of events that Robotnik had accomplished in the past, such as large factories and roboticizing citizens like Uncle Chuck. Sonic and Sally escaped to Knothole, where a secret base was held for Mobians that weren't captured. Some formed the Freedom Fighters that are famously known today.

Many of their adventures are recapped, such as battling the Krudzu and rescuing Sally from roboticization. Friends they've met along the way are also shown like Bunnie, Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al. Menacing badniks are also shown like the Universalamander, the Termite-Nator, Rexxon and Scorpius.

Robotnik's other schemes that were shown included the attack of robotic comic book characters, shrinking the Freedom Fighters and unleashing Pseudo-Sonic. However, they met other people with their own agendas like Sally's needlebird, the Nerbs, the Anti-Freedom Fighters, Caveman Sonic, Cyril, Larry Lynx and Knuckles.

More of Robotnik's contraptions are shown like the Robostorm, the Beetlebot and the Magnabot. The time Robotnik tried to trap the Freedom Fighters and the time he tried to crash Sonic and Sally's fake wedding is shown. Sonic and the Freedom Fighters also encountered other enemies like King Gong, a two-headed dragon and Roborobotnik.

The device projects Sonic's apparent death and Robotnik's troubles with E.V.E. It also projects more clashes with deadly rivals such as the Anti-Freedom Fighters, Metal Sonic, Knuckles, Snively and Nack the Weasel. It recaps events like Sonic losing his memory, Uncle Chuck regaining free will, meetings with Geoffrey St. John, finding King Acorn, Sonic losing his powers and later fighting Knuckles once again but now as Mecha Sonic. Sonic remembers more hard times like being accused for treason, being aboard the Death Egg and facing Robotnik's deadly endgame plan.

The device projects the defeat of Robotnik and peace reigning over Mobotropolis for a short while. Sonic still had to deal with alternate realities and foes like Ixis Naugus, Warlord Kodos, Uma Arachnis and Mammoth Mogul. The device almost then told the future of what would happen to the gang but it began to wig out. Sonic threw it outside before its detonation.

On his way out, Sonic apologizes for not acknowledging his parents more often and reconciles with them. Sonic and Sally share a few words also. Sonic tells Sally attempt to know her father better and tells her not to change. He presents her with flowers to which Sally then kisses him on the head. Sonic and Tails take off, leaving Sally and Rotor to find the council member to replace the hedgehog.
