Unfinished Business

While in the middle of the reconstruction of Mobotropolis, the Freedom Fighters are visited by Knuckles and his new partner, Julie-Su. Sally explains to Knuckles that she tried to find a cure for her father using the Sword of Acorns but to no avail. She had Rotor examine it for him to discover that it was fake. Sally asks Knuckles to find the real sword while she oversees reconstruction. Knuckles, however, declines as he wants to discover more about his birth place, Echidnaopolis, which he recently discovered in another zone.

Knuckles meets up with Sonic and gets thanked by the latter for his participation in the "Endgame Saga". Jules, Sonic's father, comes by and reveals Sonic's middle name, "Maurice", much to Antoine's amusement, prompting him to tell everybody of it. While Antoine is chased away by Sonic, Jules and Knuckles discuss their similar family difficulties and walk off to have dinner.

Part 1

Sonic and Sally are seen overlooking the state of Robotropolis with Sally expressing her current feelings about the present, most especially about the roboticized citizens, the random appearing zones and her father's condition. Geoffrey St. John appears and lets the duo know that Rotor, Uncle Chuck and Doctor Quack were investigating the portal to the Zone of Silence, also noting that a probe would be sent into it. Before Sonic can ask what he meant by probe, they are attacked.

Part 2

Sonic, Sally and Geoffrey see Uncle Chuck, Rotor and Dr. Quack lying on the floor before Ixis Naugus, Warlord Kodos and Uma Arachnis. A battle ensues with Sonic immediately seeing Naugus as his enemy. Sonic is able to momentarily disorientate the three and they escape through Robotnik's secret tunnels. Naugus, however, plots to give chase.

Part 3

King Acorn confirms that he has met Naugus before and tells them that Naugus is the rightful ruler of Mobotropolis. He explains that he had to use all of his skills to survive in the Zone of Silence but was eventually swallowed by a black hole and saved by Naugus, his former royal wizard. Naugus was supposedly the creator of the zone and discovered a way to prevent insanity with his magic and the zone's natural resources. King Acorn made a pact to exchange his flesh and blood for Naugus' crystallization but give fealty to him and serve as his knight. After this promise, King Acorn had the ability to change his form of flesh to crystal and back again until his escape. Despite hearing this, King Acorn's followers, especially Sally pledged to never let Naugus get anywhere near the crown.

Part 4

The castle is attacked by Naugus, Kodos and Uma so Sonic, Sally and Geoffrey protect King Acorn from harm. Naugus crystallizes Kodos and Uma as a trump card. He also attempts to crystallize Sonic for his interference but Sonic moves to quickly, resulting in the crystallization of his gloves and shoes. Sonic then destroys Naugus' staff, preventing any more movement from Kodos or Uma. Naugus disappears but Sonic knows that he has not seen the last of him.
