Sonic and Moss are in the middle of a race in the Rocky Jungle Zone. Sonic calls Moss an "old man" and thinks that he already lost Moss a mile back. The race continues for another page and Sonic wins, with Moss close behind. Sonic thinks "going fast" is the answer to everything, which Moss, Mighty and Ray reply to by explaining what has been changed in all of them. Sonic just wants to learn how to "control" his transformations, which Moss says that what Sonic needs to learn is acceptance. The comic switches over to Eggman yelling at Thunderbolt about how she failed miserably to kill Sonic and his friends, and to secure the Chaos Emerald. Thunderbolt in response says that she did not know about Sonic's transformation. After telling Thunderbolt to find a Gaia Temple or suffer, Eggman goes on to talk about how he misses his roboticized minions. Orbot then proceeds to tell Eggman about how his sub-bosses are gaining land, and then pulls up a comparison to normal fuels energy output vs. Dark Gaia energy. Switching over to Sally, she tells the team about another Chaos Emerald that Eggman has found. Tails thinks they should wait for Sonic, but everyone else thinks that they'll be better off finding the Emerald without him, since they aren't sure if he has control over his transformation yet.
Trivia
- Dr. Eggman's pose on the regular cover of this issue bears a striking resemblance to his pose on the cover of Sonic the Hedgehog #164.
- The variant cover, along with the variant covers of Mega Man #42 and Sonic Universe #69, connect together to make the "Super Smash Variant", which is to promote the release of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
